Techies: If I switch my video format from Flash to HTML5, what will happen?

will that mean everyone can watch videos including iphone/ipad users?

I have some users who cant load videos because their browser is giving errors on Flash, happens a lot with Firefox browser.

if I switch my delivery format to html5 will that lower my headaches or give me more headaches?

Try it and see.

HTML5 would work on most of web and mobile browsers. You could use FLASH with fallback to HTML5 (in case flash is not installed) in case you have some fancy flash player with ads...

html5 with flv fallback.. works like a charm.

yep, both. .mp4 with .flv fallback. Covers all bases.

If done correctly = less headaches...

always use a player with a fallback.

The internet will implode...

thanks, how do you implement a fallback? Is it a javascript that detects if the video is playing or not? And if its not then it implements the html5 player?

or it is just a button where the user has to click to acticate the html5 player?
is there software I can buy that does this?

it is usually implemented in the player. at least it's there in JW Player, which is probably the most used one.
