Tesla Motors to build massive battery plant
[quote]
So far the story of Tesla Motors has been about exciting electric luxury cars and an even higher performing stock. Next week it will reveal plans for a much less sexy innovation that is more important to the company's future than either of those things: A huge new lithium battery factory dubbed the "Gigafactory" by Tesla founder Elon Musk. The plant is the key Tesla needs in order to produce an "affordable" long-range electric car in substantial enough numbers to join the ranks of the major automakers. "It's the future of the company," said Craig Irwin, analyst with Wedbush Securities. "They need to cut the cost of the battery in half in order to make a half-million cars.". 14 seconds into this video, Musk says:
"The $70,000.00 version of the Model S, which is actually $6,300.00 after the Federal Tax Rebate....." http://money.cnn.com/video/technolog...hina.cnnmoney/ At that price...I'll take a dozen. :winkwink: |
I think what he meant to say is "less, after the $6300 tax rebate". I think it is as high as $8500 in some places. Here in Quebec, it is $8000.

I bought TSLA when it was under $100 and sold when they declared that the stock was overvalued at around $140. Now seeing that it's over $200 I'm kicking myself and wondering whether to buy in again given this news.

unreal how bad Top Gear slandered Tesla - Tesla Sued the fuck outta them - hope they win. I wonder what was the motive for the bullshit they pulled?
http://www.teslamotors.com/teslavstopgear On Tuesday March 29 Tesla sued the BBC television programme “Top Gear” for libel and malicious falsehood. When Top Gear reviewed the Tesla Roadster, the episode that aired contained lies and misinformation about the Roadster’s performance, behaviour and reliability. Tesla reluctantly took legal action after its repeated attempts to contact the BBC, over the course of months, were ignored. In the episode, Tesla Roadsters are depicted as suffering several critical “breakdowns” during track driving. Host Jeremy Clarkson concludes the episode by saying that the Roadster doesn’t work. Specifically, Top Gear misrepresented that: The Roadster ran out of charge and had to be pushed into the Top Gear hangar by 4 men. The Roadster’s true range is only 55 miles per charge (not 211). One Roadster’s motor overheated and was completely immobilized as a result. The other Roadster’s brakes were broken, rendering the car undriveable. That neither of the two Roadsters provided to Top Gear was available for test driving due to these problems. The breakdowns were staged and the statements are untrue. Yet the programme’s lies are repeatedly and consistently re-broadcast to hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide on BBC television and web sites, and on other TV channels via syndication; the show is available on the internet, and is for sale on Top Gear DVD’s around the world. |

the judge dismissed the libel lawsuit tesla filed against top gear for that episode from 6 or 7 years ago. and on appeal, the appeals court also dismissed it.
something about any reasonable person knows better. OP is going to soil himself when it's released in a week or so that tesla is most likely partnering with apple computers on the gigafactory. Word on the street is there's no way tesla can raise the funds needed for that plant |
50,000 quid, crazy price
|
New very long life battery technology would be more valuable than any device you hold in your hand or drive on a street. If Tesla / Apple manage to patent real breakthrough battery tech it will easily double the value of both companies.

just buy a tesla already! :)

recharge times and distances per charge wouldnt matter if batteries could be hot swapped by a machine at a service station.

Graphene is about to turn the battery world on its head anyways. That goes for Solar as well. Anything involving graphene is where to invest.
