So, I want to host my own FLV and Mp4 files
Is rackhost's cloud media hosting plan that uses (cdn) address the best for just this type of stuff?
http://www.rackspace.com/cloud/files/pricing/ or Digital Ocean? https://www.digitalocean.com/price-comparison-chart Let mek now your experiences. Thanks |
heard good things about the latter, but not sure what best option would be
|
anything over 1tb files its doing to be cheaper to do it on a dedicated server then any of those places.
|
Unless you need a lot of bandwidth (more than 3TB/month) DigitalOcean is the best solution. That's what I use at this moment for streaming my videos and it's definately the cheapest.
|
you are right if you dont need alot of space or alot of bandwith digitalocean is the cheapest option.

$120 per TB of bw :helpme

isn't it against Digital Ocean TOS to use their VPS service as CDN? streaming from other servers is treated as using it as CDN, i guess. unless your website is also hosted there, of course.
|
Streaming video is allowed as long as it's legal.

CDN is good for site design elements (.jpg, .gif, .png. .css, .js) to speed it up. As for video streaming you don't need it really... |
