When you're happy with your existing one and the only case is you fear the script could have a backdoor, safety problems or do some unintended things then talk to the developer explain them your situation and ask to get access to the source.
If this don't work you can decode it, as long you don't take any illegal benefits from this, means if you need some more domains to run it you still will BUY the needed license, you don't share it or whatever that would in any way harm the developer.
Means your only benefit is that you know what the code does and how that you run.
Probably you break the terms of the seller, but on end everyone should decide for him.
I seen a few scripts where above way helped to avoid problems, mostly there was no evil intention of the developer behind, but lack knowledge of developing secure applications.
