I know I have asked this before - Why don't Americans moan about the weather?..

A storm of "historical proportions" is headed to the East Coast...

It makes the storms we have been seeing look sad in comparison - In the UK we have been forecasting the end of the world, yet in the US nobody has mentioned it on GFY as far as I can see.....

If you haven't mentioned it because you haven't heard - Then I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news:Oh crap...

8 inches of snow in Canada is practically a non-event.

I'm on the west coast:winkwink:

We are due about 12-18 in Central Maine starting at around 12 noon tomorrow and going on through until Friday night Looking out of my window i see about 36 inches has dropped over the past week or so. Its about average for here. The bitter cold at -20F or as i would say in the UK 52 below freezing is getting a little old but hey i could always move back to sunny San Diego ?

If you live in an area where the weather is going to hit it is all the local media will talk about. Last week we had a sudden snow storm in Portland. We rarely get snow and if we do it is only a few inches. It dropped about 8 inches on us in about 36 hours. If you watched local TV stations you would have thought the end of the world was upon us.

I suppose its a strange comparison between Europe and the US - If Germany was to get seriously fucked I doubt the news here would mention it...

We think of the US as being a country and you are concerned about what happens in another state or even the other side.....

In Europe the countries are very separate, it seems the US is more like Europe than we realise...

That is a very good analogy. We are very separate, not just in distance, but by attitude, ideology, lifestyle, and many other things. If it is major we will hear about, for example the big storm hitting the Southeast right now will make the local news here in Portland, but it will be more of 30 second mention. The same goes for other national news. Our local news broadcast will give 1-2 minutes to cover national topics (unless they are huge stories) then they are right back to local stuff.

I once said to someone, "That is as foreign to her as Mars or Denver." They laughed, but in reality I bet most people in just about any city outside of Colorado know as much about Mars as they do Denver.

The English moan about the weather but do nothing about it. In CA we pay higher taxes for the great weather the government provides.

SplatterMaster 02-12-2014 10:06 PM

No reason to moan about something we have no control over. It's a nice break and it'll be gone in a day or 2 and then we can get back to moaning about everything else. And people in the south really can't moan about road conditions etc. They don't have enough bad weather to justify spending millions on equipment they'll only use once every few years.

Oh and the news always makes things out to be worse than they actually are :1orglaugh

I went for a ride today, it was a warm 75 degrees, not very windy.

That's about all the moaning I can do

It's going to be almost 80 tomorrow in L.A. so as long as I am not directly effected I don't give a fuck.
