Using the parody law to copy a business

If this is legall then one presumes you could do the same with websites by setting up a site such as thisaintplayboy.com and doing a site that looks like playboy.

You probably could, but it would have to be funny. The argument is that yeah they're selling coffee, but people don't go there for the coffee, they go there to have a laugh. You can make a playboy parody site, but the primary purpose of it would have to be humor. There's no way to add selling porn to the equation without hurting your case.

Aside from the real law, just don't fuck around with trademarked domains. Chances are the registrars will just fork them right over to the companies no questions asked whether you have some legal argument or not. If they don't you'll get a C&D, which doesn't mean you *have* to give it up, but if you don't you're going to pay more in legal fees to keep it than it's worth. Shit's happened to me a million times.

I once had this expired domain that was "met-line.info" I paid $18 for, which had been a website about the london subways or some shit like that. That one alone was making me a free $5,000 a month just from blackhat SEO. Fucking METLIFE actually got it snatched from me because their stupid lawyers thought it was meant to be some typo domain squatting for anybody who thought the metlife site would be "met-life.info". Stay far away.

If you did that and used ugly chicks imitating the shoots of PB you might get away with it.

Don't make a parody out of a domain name using a trademark in the domain name -- that is just asking for trouble.
