WTF... killing and butchering poor animal in front of kids... they must be seriously fucked up...

Man, I just got through this on FB. The animal was not killed in front of kids. An autopsy was performed that was open to the public. Some people bought their kids to the autopsy, it was their choice to bring their kids. Its not like it was a normal day at the zoo and they walked into the enclosure and killed and butchered the animal right then and there. This is shitty, sensationalist journalism and nothing more.

This guy here is a rational individual.

The zoo killed it because there was a risk of inbreeding: a huge issue that could devastate the population of Giraffes at the zoo.

It was killed with a single bolt to the head, killing it instantly.

To complain about one niche case of killing an animal to protect others is ludicrous, especially since there are hundreds of millions of battery hens currently kept in the worst conditions possible for the purposes of farming their eggs.

It always amazes me how people get so angry about the death of one animal, yet always seem to be ones who consume eggs and milk.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather be shot in the head instantly rather than have my nipples pumped daily or my ability to move while I shit eggs reduced to zero.

What gets me is the number of places claiming the giraffe was killed to feed lions. Untrue. The meat was fed to the big cats, AFTER they had done an autopsy, various experiments, done whatever science they needed to do. Why waste a big heap of meat like that? Just because it was fed to the cats, doesnt mean that is WHY it was killed.

I agree. Just killing the animal is bullshit! Why not ship him off somewhere. Other zoos asked that they send him to them. Instead they shoot him in the head and feed him to the lions in front of families.

"Offers" are often bull shit. I've heard of many situations where there was public outcry because an offer was made, but then the people doing the "terrible task" later stated that nobody actually followed through with their offers.

Without knowing what these "offers" really were and whether or not the offering parties could follow through, it's difficult to make a judgment.

I don't believe you're questioning the level of disgusting inadequately exposed procedure being held in front of very young public. These people may end up raising fairly sick kids also.

Why is it acceptable to you to experiment on toads but not other animals? Toads are a very important part of the natural ecosystem and it always disappoints me when I see little kids smashing them for no reason.
