There's The Beatles And Then....

....there's "everybody else".

Watching the CBS Grammy Special celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Fab Four and it's, except for a few flat moments from Brad Paisley and Maroon 5, fabulous!

(But why only 2 1/2 hours instead of three hours? Do we really need to be force-fed a crappy sitcom called 'The Millers'? I'd rather have another 1/2 hour of The Beatles.)

John and George are sorely missed but Yoko Ono is there along with George's wife and son. But hey - where the fuck is Cynthia and Julian Lennon? I do NOT like how they have either been forced out of The Beatles (and John's) legacy or have voluntarily done so (I don't know why they're not there but they should be).

KILLER 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' with Dave Grohl (on drums!), Joe Walsh and some black guy with a weird hat. LOL

All this and a semi-Beatles "reunion", too! (Hard to call it a "reunion" with only Paul and Ringo but still pretty cool.)

Yup, it's great to be reminded that there's The Beatles and then there's "everybody else". There is simply not another artist who tops them, solo or group, and that includes fucking Elvis.

Beatles 4ever.

Ringo doesn't look or move like a guy pushing 74.

70 is the new 30. :)

But to end the show with 'Hey Jude', a song written FOR Julian Lennon, and to not have him (or Cynthia) there is just wrong somehow.

Mutt 02-09-2014 08:44 PM

I was just on youtube today watching/listening to Beatles tunes. I know there are people who aren't big fans preferring other British bands of the 60s and 70s but the Beatles(Lennon and McCartney) were absolute freaks of nature when it comes to songwriting, the songs just flowed out of them like a faucet, beautiful melodies that will outlive all of us.

JockoHomo 02-09-2014 08:45 PM

Yoko Ono is the devil.

I can't believe that John put his cock in that cunt.

For all we know there could be some friction with Julian. Who knows?

When I went to see Paul McCartney play at the MGM Grand about a year ago...Yoko, Sean, and George Harrison's widow were in the front row as well.

Hell, I haven't heard of Julian in 20 years. I remember when he had his career take off and then he just disappeared. I thought he sang a lot like his old man too.

Julian Lennon ???...

?Listen, I appreciate the Beatles as much as everybody else, but the last thing I wanted to do?because it didn?t look like there was going to be an opportunity to perform, really? was stand in the audience clapping along to other people singing Beatles songs,? Lennon said.

?For me, it would be like a Beatles karaoke night. I?d just feel like a bit of an idiot, and I?ve never been a major fan of awards shows. It?s just not my cup of tea.?

Well, I guess there's the answer to the burning question that at least a dozen people worldwide have been wondering! :1orglaugh

Saw an interview with Julian awhile back and there's a lot of animosity between him and Yoko over the selling off of a lot of John's possessions. I don't think they've patched things up between them.

He just kind've dropped off the radar it seems since the 80s. He had a few decent songs back in the day - sounded much like his dad. Haven't heard much from him since.

Watching it now! ;-)

dyna mo 02-09-2014 09:26 PM

the amazing thing about the beatles, for me, is how short a time they were together. With Ringo, I think it was maybe 7 years in which they cranked out that killer catalog of tunes. That last year, before during and after the "get back" sessions, they weren't even getting along.

I don't watch a lot of tele so I didn't see the tribute but I'll take a guess that the black dude in the funny hat playing "while my guitar gentle weeps" was gary clark jr. he's good, real good, and the guitar he plays is the epiphone casino, the guitar that the beatles, in particular, john, put on the map.

fitzmulti 02-09-2014 09:37 PM

Really cool to see Peter Frampton on as well. ;-)

DirtyDreamer 02-09-2014 09:41 PM

It was different and pretty good for the most part.

Yes, I'm a fan of The Beatles and Elvis.

oppoten 02-09-2014 10:15 PM

Spend a day watching their entire career on Youtube, in chronological order.

Amazing that they did so much in such a short space of time.

Yes! I didn't like him with Brad Paisley when they sang 'Here Comes The Sun' but then when he played 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' he traded licks with Joe Walsh and it was maybe the best performance of the night.

After the debacle that was the 1978 film Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (with the Bee Gees!) Frampton should never go near anything Beatles ever again.

The Porn Nerd 02-10-2014 11:03 AM

Beatle bump.

Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!

Hahaha! Ok I was obviously enjoying some Beatles-era LSD whilst watching the show. LOL (I wasn't, just joking.)

Got my damn hats mixed up! I thought the vocals were better during 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' then during 'Here Comes The Sun' and thought 'damn he's singing better than the last time...'

I guess it IS true: to us white people all hats look the same. :D
