So I've had Google Glass for a few days now
And I am not really that impressed. It doesn't play well with iPhone for one, and when it does its more of a novelty than anything. I can check traffic and get directions, but I live on an island so I know traffic is always a pain in the ass and I don't need directions. I could see where this could be cool if I were traveling and in a new city, or strolling around New York, but here its not really that necessary.
Certain Gmail messages get pushed to the screen, and I can reply via voice, which is cool, but Siri can do the same thing. They have some cool apps in the works (or at least ideas for cool apps), but right now there are only a few dozen. I dunno, I guess maybe I was hoping and expecting more. :2 cents: |
I think everyone will probably be in the same boat as you once it sees a wide release. The advertisements do a good job of distracting you from the fact that it's just a little rectangle in your field of vision, and not some futuristic HUD.
I'd be interested to see what could be done if it were paired up with a "smart watch" or something. The novelty of GPS/Weather/Gmail will wear off pretty fast. How does the application process work? Did you have to pay full price or did they give you some kind of discount in exchange for usage data or something? |
It's a beta product and believe me with the pool of developers behind google play overtime you'll see some truly fascinating apps. Still they need to address the low battery life.

The apps are sideloaded either through the MyGlass app (iPhone) or from an online portal that is tied to your Google account. I didn't get any discount or data subsidy and it wasn't cheap (in fact I had to up my mobile plan in order to tether and use it away from Wifi). But there is talk that the ones who were chosen to buy the Explorer version might get a free Glass in its final version when it gets released. |

its very new
once it has apps and some ideas of uses it will be cool |
Needs X-Ray app!

The moment someone comes near me wearing that shit... I will shove their google fucking glasses down their god damn throat.
|
It'll be like that Playstation Move thing. At first everyone thought it was cool. Then they felt like it was more of an unecessary pain in the ass.

I doubt very much it will ever be released or any real apps will ever be done.. It is 2 years old, and there are literally 20 apps. If the "google play pool" would be so awesome, it would have apps already.. but developers have realized that the tool sucks and you can actually not make apps for it... I am not sure if you tried one of them yet Theo, but take my word for it... they are far from great... someone else will make a much better system, unless they fix theirs. |
Google glasses is an asshole product from an asshole company.
