Have any of you tested this on your join page?
 

I was just listening to the made to stick audio book and they brought up a very interesting point about how options cripple a person's ability to make a decision.

We always had more than 2 options and I know most sites have more than two options. Have any of you a/b tested to see if 2 options performs better than 3? Especially on first time members. Returning traffic (type ins) I can see being the type that may want options like 3, 6, 12 months. But affiliate traffic may be overwelmed and may be better suited to a trial - no trial option.

Just an idea. If any of you tried it what did you notice?

We have not actually tried that with a join page but

In our membes areas for a while we had a couple different upsells in the footer of 2 and for a while 3 different cam companies. We would make a sale here and there. At some point we did a redesign of one of the members areas and took out all but one cam company and went from 2 or 3 sales a week to 2 or 3 a day. Needless to say we removed the multiple option from the other members areas as well.

So it stands to reason that a join page may see similar changes as well.

Its similar to if you have a large amount of banners on a page it can make the user "banner blind" to where if you have a few they are more likely to click.

No but I have tried MORE options - like SMS billing, pay by check, various debit cards, etc - and sales plummeted. I do see some websites offering a zillion join options but I always thought that was too cluttered. Still, some do it so I wonder if they're successful.....

Heya Shap this kinda has the ASK SHAP ANYTHING question. Im starting a run of fetish sites.. Is it better to go streaming..instead of download and then offer 1 day trials since they cant easily download everything if streaming video?
