Cloud hosting VS dedicated server?

Im considering to sign up for cloud hosting instead of A own dedicated server. Anyone here have experience running everything on cloud ? it seems to have many benefits compared to own dedcated

I use DigitalOcean where I have installed cPanel cPanel/WHM and it's running quite good.... I'm on $80 account. Have about 30 sites, burn about 2TB of data. Everything runs smooth... Good thing is that I can almost instantly upgrade or downgrade. I doubt I could find server with SSD for that money...

It all depends what do you need a server for and what are you trying to do...

Guess it depends on your host a great deal. I tried with the cloud hosting and was very unhappy with both the speed and downtime when I did it.

I moved to dedicated and both those issues went away...of course, I also changed hosts so...I would recommend trying it first and if you like it, continue and save money...if NOT then you can always go dedicated and know you will get the speed you need.

hello,

i also have some doubts about hosting, what is for your opinion best for content producer to upload content for clients to download? I have several sites and several client's non adult sites, but they are completely ok on hosting I have now

my hosting recently changed packages giving everybody unlimited space and unlimited bw, bu I suppose they will ask me what I'm doing if I upload 30 gb of new stuff every month.

any advice?

cloud hosting is best when you need to scale up or down quickly if your traffic / space / cpu / ram needs dont go up or down much dedicated servers will be cheaper 95% of the time.

If you are content producer then and you're looking for a place where to store stuff you sell - you could check out Amazon S3 (simple storage service).

This is great since it's a reliable backup solution, it's cheap... you don't have to worry about CPU, RAM, disk space... you pay as you go... and you can create links for file downloads or create users to limit access to certain files or folders etc... so lots of different options there...

Hi, are you referring to this: http://aws.amazon.com/s3/pricing/

yes, prices are ok, around 10$ for 100GB. so they are charging storage and traffic also. ftp and p2p are pain with hd videos. this could be solution.

thanks

I sow some hosting companies now offer unlimited space and bw for even cheapest shared hosting. mine also did it this year. just I don't know how would they react if I put 50 GB up in next few days (and I had 5 Gb package...) and few hundred gigs monthly bw.
