The Wolf of Wall Street

What did you guys think seriously? :) No spoilers tho

i think the movie is really good, funny

bronco67 01-25-2014 09:28 AM

I liked it overall. The main thing that bothered me was that it was turned up to 11 the entire time, so when bad shit started happening it's not like it had any impact whatsoever.

Also, I can't believe I'm saying this -- as pervy as I am -- but they went a little overboard with the sex stuff. After seeing a couple of orgies, I get the point that it was a debaucherous lifestyle, and they kept up the pace the entire time. The last sex scene he as with his wife was borderline porn -- and I don't know, maybe I like to keep my porn and cinema separate. I feel like a sex scene better be important to the plot. It felt kind of gratuitous.

And the ludes scenes was totally worthless and annoying, went on forever.

But Leo DiCaprio was amazing, especially in his big speeches to his crew ----and a mediocre Scorcese movie is better than most other movies.

That scene of Rob Reiner's character intro, where he answers the phone had me laughing for a minute.

Tommydiv 01-25-2014 09:29 AM

too long

seeandsee 01-25-2014 09:44 AM

I will watch it this week, i see lots of positive comments...

CaptainHowdy 01-25-2014 10:13 AM

It was fun ...

mafia_man 01-25-2014 10:48 AM

If they took a boat from Italy to Switzerland they would never hit storms like that.

Great take! I think I agree with almost all of it except the ludes scene. I think it was a great here's-when-it-all-goes-to-shit inflection point, which was hammered home even harder when we saw what really happened versus Belfort's false memory.

That scene I think moved me from being okay with him as a fun-loving, ambitious party boy who dicks around to seeing him as he really was, a scumbag ripping people off and blowing all the cash on dumb shit.

Also I was impressed by Leo's physical comic ability-- that was nearly Mr. Bean good!

There's one thing you can see when watching DiCaprio in any movie. He gives 200%, even from his first big role What's Eating Gilbert Grape. Watch that if you want to see some acting.

It would be smart to use search function when you post about something that is very most likely has been posted before. And probably numerous times.
Just 2 cents.

Horny Dude 01-25-2014 09:03 PM

Good movie but I'm with bronco67, they went way too far with the sex. I totally understand that it was a free for all back then, but they kept shoving it in your face. I was surprised that movie was not rated NC17 with the amount of sex and drug use it had.

babymaker 01-25-2014 09:15 PM

Watched it last night, was way way too long, could have been a great 1hr law and order svu episode, i got the point. I was expecting a lot more for some reason, it was very similar to middlemen, and I agree the sex was a bit over the top for non porn. I actually thought it was over around 2hrs in it seemed to be ending and then it just start going on again. If he really went on after having the opportunity to give up only 2 mil and his position, he really was an idiot lol

Supz 01-25-2014 09:32 PM

The people involved made it a great movie. If it was made with other actors and not Scorsese it would have sucked. Its not a GREAT movie. It was a decent movie with Great performances. I liked it.

dyna mo 01-25-2014 09:52 PM

it's a complete waste of time about a waste of space person. the last decent scorsese flick was *maybe* the departed. gangs of new york was good, that was a long time ago. his documentary on the blues was decent, but again a long time ago.

sojproductions 01-25-2014 11:26 PM

I thought it was a great movie, the acting made it great, for me jonah hill was outstanding.

idolbucks 01-25-2014 11:32 PM

I really liked the sex scenes, I wasn't expecting it be as full on at all so it was a surprised

I went with a girl and there good few guys there with with gf's having quick glance to left n right most of them trying not act embarrassed lol. LD as a actor you are never disappointed.

He was only paid £36,000 for starring in that film!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/25857953

I agree, I thought his character was hilarious and really made the movie.

Wall Street wouldn't have liked this movie, probably a little too much of an insight into the lifestyle and mindset of those white collar con artists.

It's funny because Jordan Belfort's scams are a drop in the ocean compared to the fraud created by Wall Street through their Mortgage Backed Securities Ponzi Scheme.

I really enjoyed the film, DiCaprio's portrayal of a banker was excellent. Loved the fact the film was 180 minutes long, great films need to be at least 150 - 180 minutes long to give enough time for the character and plots to develop.

It's a solid 8/10

When I heard him on Stern, he never said how much money he made -- but he did say he was dying to be in a Martin Scorcese movie, and begged Leo to convince Martin to give him a chance. So he didn't make a lot of money, but this movie has done more for Jonah Hill's long game than a million dollar paycheck.

Yes I agree and too long, 3 hours seeing DiCaprio doing sex and drugs it is too much. The parts where he does speechs are at sleep risk.
If you want 3 hours of nonsense sex+drugs without the unnecessary long speechs, watch both the hangover I and II (3 hours total) and you get Vegas as a bonus:

Oh absolutely! He said he would have done the movie for free to work with Scorcese

His role in The Wolf Of Wall Street will open doors for him, smart move on his part

Just did, entered "wallstreet" and came up with 2+ threads.

I mean when you post about some hit movie, especially long after premiere it should automatically strike you that it (very most likely) must have been threads about it already.

Not hating, just saying :winkwink:

I thought it was great, really enjoyed the ride.

loreen 01-26-2014 02:53 PM

I liked the leadership scenes, where DiCaprio / Jordan Belfort was speaking to his employers. It actually gave me a great idea for a new site :)

Black All Through 01-26-2014 05:06 PM

Gonna wait till it comes out in rental

hellboy78 01-26-2014 05:59 PM

I love Di Caprio

but this movie is made to easy sale to mainstream

a lot of sex, probably too much and no-sense
(maybe I found it little bit boring, because I already had my threesomes, orgies, a lot of drugs and alcol)

the great part of the movie is just 10 minutes,
talking to his crew, and looking at his course followers dreaming face in the end.

for the rest...
a poor story...

great DiCaprio and Jonah Hill

brassmonkey 01-26-2014 06:03 PM

not watching it

esham 01-26-2014 07:06 PM

The Departed was not that great at all.

Leonardo DiCaprio made it.

Choopa_Pardo 01-27-2014 08:35 AM

I thought it was Marty's funniest movie by far, but it felt like a movie I had already seen before (Goodfellas minus murder plus drugs and finance). Not terrible, but I wasn't blown away.

Robbie 01-27-2014 08:38 AM

I personally LOVED the movie and was laughing my ass off the whole time.

And as a guy who was in clubs in the late 1970's and the 1980's...I remember qualudes very well and thought the movie was awesome. :)

Trading floors are block booking cinema's for private viewings, dealers are going mad for it with themed dress evenings as well. 99.99% will probably watch and go, ahhh, but if he hadn't got caught.....

Mind you , he never paid the fine in full and seems to be doing pretty well

prezzz 01-27-2014 05:44 PM

Great movie, very good acting.
For me the Matthew McConaughey scene at the restaurant really set the mood for the entire show. Brilliant scene.

15ft waves took out a forward hatch, then it started flooding, and more stuff started smashing around and then it went down. The seaplane was in US at the time tho

You may be too picky. How many movies hollywood produces every year? Movies like departed are at the very least in top 5% best.

I've been sailing there, you really have no idea. I've seen waves I couldn't believe my eyes. The Mediterranean can be really dangerous. Check by yourself: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8548547.stm

You're right I have no idea as I don't sail but the CGI looked excessive.
