The Ultimate proof that humans are sheep :

proof = <br />

There it is in plain sight.
Full proof that you will do anything you are told no matter how stupid it is.

I don't get it..

Are you saying people use <br /> rather than </br>?

I actually used to and learnt </br> but I think it was on wordpress or on some HTML validator site they said it should be <br />.
I still use </br> but sometimes the other. Maybe I am sheep.

If you are talking about something else entirely and I missed the point, igore me, carry on :)

<br> works fine.

People use other conventions because that's how they learned syntax. Hardly a "sheep" issue. It's a learning/syntax issue.

So question why did someone teach </b>r in the first place if just <br> works?

I just explained why. Coding etiquette. Easier to keep in form. Also less confusing for someone just learning if all tags end with a slash. It works either way.

geedub 01-21-2014 01:52 PM

A better question would be, why do so many retards use page breaks improperly to begin with?

It actually doesn't. Self-closing tags need the / in the tag to signify that they are self-closing. Your HTML may "work" but it doesn't validate, which breaks some things that follow the appropriate spec. Definitely not a style choice -- one is right, and the other is wrong.

There we have it. Programmers real definition.

Though for the common man, it still works.

True enough! For 99% of purposes, <br> is equivalent to <br />. You are so unlikely to run into a case where it isn't, that it doesn't matter. BUT WHEN YOU DO ... you'll be glad you did it "right". Or you'll use find+replace, lol. :thumbsup
