Odd Night

I had the strangest night. I went to a pig roast.

http://rochardsbunnyranch.com/rock/pigroast.jpg

Six years ago a few neighbors got together one January, slaughtered a pig, and had a pig roast. The following January they did it again but invited more people. Since then they moved it to a barn, hundreds of people show up, everyone brings food and booze, and it's a massive pot luck of two hundred strangers. They even had a band.

Strange night, but a lot of fun too.

srockhard 01-18-2014 11:25 PM

I don't see any plates or utensils...do you just walk up and take a bite of pig?

This is the guy cutting up the little piggy. He cuts it up, and moves it to the silver container to his left. Then that container is moved up to the table in front of him where you get plates and load up on piggy.

Very redneck really. Lots of flannel and cowboy hats.

I'm so not joking.

They do a lot of that sort of thing in New Zealand - You hear about them and everyone just turns up with food and booze - If its near the sea everyone goes out and picks up shellfish - Mountains of it and then its cooked in a pit - Best food you will ever taste...

I have been to a few - I was way down south though where there are a lot less Maori - They are perfect for the Kiwi lifestyle - You set them up, get drunk and pass out - When you wake up the food is perfect...

There was an impromptu one I went to up in Napier and in the end we were there for a week - 1000's of people must have come and gone in that time.....

Now I am feeling a bit homesick:Oh crap...

'Aotearoa' - I didn't even have to check the spelling:pimp...

I can read and pronounce most Maori words - Even though I don't know what most of them mean - That may not sound a big deal, but a lot of the pronunciation is pretty bizarre.....

Hah - holy shit!

Since you were in NZ, did you get a chance to go to Australia at all? I think the kiwis are a bit more laid back than us, but still very similar places really.

seeandsee 01-19-2014 01:35 PM

I spent a year in Adelaide - Then a group of us drove up the coast to Cairns - It took months - It was a hard job getting out of Byron - lol...

Amazing times.....

I've been to several pig roasts, they were kinda fun, all of them (except for one) had no idea how to roast a pig though, the pig ends up tasting like shit soaked in vinegar.

the only one that was good was in hawaii, the pig was wrapped in banana leaves and buried in the ground and cooked.

John-ACWM 01-20-2014 02:34 AM

:) odd indeed, but a fun crowd is good.
