Police arrest student who shot 2 at Philadelphia school
PHILADELPHIA (RNN) - Police have arrested the person who shot two students Friday at a school in the Logan section of the city, but they have not recovered the gun.
After a search that lasted about an hour, Philadelphia police arrested the shooter, also a student, at his home in Grays Ferry located about 11 miles away from the school.
Authorities said the 15-year-old victims - one male and one female - were shot in the arm while inside the Delaware Valley Charter High School gym around 3:30 p.m. They were in stable condition at Albert Einstein Medical Center, a block away from the school.
Video footage from inside the gym showed the shooter pulling out a gun and shooting the victims, according to police.
Authorities have not determined a motive for the incident.
"We were able to lock this down very quickly, get good information on who this person was and locate that person quickly," Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey said. "We don't know if it was an intentional discharge or accidental. The investigation will determine all those things."
There were seven students inside the gym at the time of the shooting, according to Ramsey.
The school has an enrollment of about 600, and students were being released one-by-one as authorities searched people inside.
