wtf? My browser is posessed!
Anyone ever experience this?
I keep getting random sites...I try to go to GFY and end up at Stile's, I try to check my stats and go to one of my own domains instead, I try to refresh a page on one of my domains and end up on some Welsh site selling bathroom accessories, etc. It seems totally random, and it's driving me up the wall :( I remember this happening to someone else years ago, but for the life of me I can't remember what the remedy was. I've cleared my cache, run my anti-virus program and Ad-Aware, rebooted, nothing helps. LOL, it took 6 tries just to get to GFY to be able to ask for help. Anyone have any ideas? |
sounds wicked, never heard of it though :)
:helpme |
I use this software called X-Teq. One of the things it does is look for obnoxious little programs that run behind your back in startup. It allows you to disable them without actually removing them and doing possible harm to your registry. You can get it here:

LOL
Thanks titmouse, but I've given up...that link took me to Google, my ISP's homepage, the Shemp, 3 404's, and a page saying that the Russian Apache server was successfully installed. As far as I can remember from the experience this guy had, though, it wasn't some program running in the background, there was something screwed up in his registry or something. |
Try this
Run - > type msconfig go to startup If you see anything fishy here, disable it. If your unsure, leave it alone. Reboot and see if that helps What browser are you using? What operating system? |

Thanks titmouse
I finally managed to download it. Great program, but it hasn't helped, I'm afraid :( When I reboot, it seems fine for a while, then I start getting more and more 404's and misdirections, until finally it's impossible to do a damned thing. Anyone else have any ideas? I'm running Win2K Pro and IE6 with all service packs and upgrades installed. I don't have a virus, it's not Spyware or Adware, and it's not a program running in the background. I hope someone can help, it's driving me totally batty. |

Yes...I had the same problem for months before I finally figured out what it was.
Go here: http://www.lavasoft.nu/software/adaware/ and download this free program. Run it and delete everything you find. You'll have no more browser problems after that. Dean* |
I use adaware aswell, but Spybot search and destroy rocks and it is free as well
Spybot search and Destroy This one is awsome............:thumbsup |

I wrestled with my browser for months and months because of the same problem you are describing. Nobody could figure out what the prob was. I even went so far as to download Netscape and used it for a few months before I ran accross this software. I download this program, ran it and have had no problems since. I couldn't fucking believe it. Before you give up - make sure your running it correctly... Dean* |
I have experienced the same problem before. It's fucking weird. I have no idea what I did to it stop, and if I did something. :(
|
Dean, I did it right :)
I think Spybot might have done the job :thumbsup |
