You're in a hurry or you just value your time. You call someone and get a machine. Instead of a quick message like, "I'm not home. You know what to do" you get first of all 30 seconds of their favorite music (not yours) and then they come on and drone a lengthy message for another 30 seconds. How self-centered and presumptuous can people get? And I note it's mostly unimportant people who do this. The more humble their crib, the more likely you are to be subjected to this sort of thing. Maybe it's their little chance to control people, but I sure find it offensive.

Yeah...well, not so much strippers per se (if you mean club strippers), but models, and as you know, they will frequently entertain you with the most mind-destroyingly boring music and then say, "Hey, this Alexis (or whatever her friggin name is) and I can't come to the phone now (yeah, we know...we got your machine), and I may be sleeping or I may be working or I may be out of town, but I really want to hear from you, so leave me a message and then I'll get back to you. But!...I'm going to be out of town from March 1 to March 13, so maybe I won't be getting right back to you, but leave your message anyway."

My bestfriend used to have her singing a backstreet boys song for 3 minutes... and I went fuckin' NUTS , after a little while of hearing it over and over evertime I would call her.
I figured out the pound key worked wonders :1orglaugh

That might work with some voicemail systems, but I'm not sure it's applicable to most answering machines. Besides, you DO need to listen just in case you're going to get some important information, and then you'll know whether you'd have been better off using that tactic.
