WASHINGTON - International Business Machines Corp. has agreed to recall 56,000 computer monitors that could overheat and pose a fire risk, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday.
IBM has received five reports of monitors overheating and smoking, including one report of minor property damage, the safety commission said in a statement. No injuries have been reported. The recalled IBM monitors include the G51 CRT and G51t Touch Screen cathode ray tube models with the following model numbers on the back of the unit: 6541-02N, 6541-02E, 6541-02S, 6541-Q0N, 6541-Q0E, and 6541-Q0S. The monitors were sold from June 1997 through Dec. 1998 for about $370 by IBM, MicroTouch Systems Inc. and major retail stores nationwide, including Best Buy, CompUSA, OfficeMax and Radio Shack, the safety commission said. Dude Fire is nothing to laugh at as we've seen in the news recently.
When I was young my mother owned a gift shop. I went to pickup the cash after closing one night and smelled smoke. Some dumb fuck smoker had tossed his cigarette butt in a trash can without rubbing it out in the offices above my mom's store. The offices above were on fire and the firemen said had I not been there and reported it so quickly the entire block of stores would have been burned down. My little brother was playing with matches and gasoline in the forest behind our house in the 70's and the dumb fuck started the leaves on fire. I ran out and started to stamp it out not realizing there was gasoline there and my jeans caught on fire in the process. My kids schoolteacher just had her house burn this week because of an electrical device overheating in her house. I take fire seriously. |
