....when would you start charging?

I have a couple of classified ad sites. I began charging for some features the day they were launched. The ads are free but people will spend money on the little upgrades especially when the listings start to pick up. I felt it was better to introduce the fees at launch rather than piss off the users after they were used to everything being free.

The software I use also has an auction option as well as an area where retail store owners can setup a mini storefront. Those are both paid services.

I have two classified sites and I'm considering a few more.

No current plan to charge the users for posting ads on either of them, more or less hopeful that I can swing some revenue from advertising a little down the road.

No. Only mainstream classifieds right now.
