Some people do the stupidest shit...

I figure this is worth a laugh...

I've maintained ownership of a URL for probably six or seven years now. Without checking, I couldn't tell you exactly how long it's been. It's an adult domain that I will again be utilizing soon, but even though I've not used it for four years or so and haven't had any interest, I refuse to let my ownership lapse.

The day after I acquired the url, I received an e-mail that was written in horrible broken English, accusing me of 'Stealing' the domain... After a quick back and forth, I learned that 'stealing' meant buying a domain that someone else wanted but never owned.

It's important to note that never once have I been offered a fucking penny by this asshole in exchange for the domain. But..

Each year in early November I receive an e-mail from this same dipshit, "Thanking me to allow my leasing of this very important name to be bought."

Conversely, in Novembers end I can count on another e-mail from this jackass after he or she has discovered that again, I've fucking renewed it, and his very important project (that he's not found a domain for in all this time) will continue to suffer until I see fit to allow the domain to expire in another year.

At this point, even if I never do a thing with it... I'll never let it go. I so look forward to our November communications. :1orglaugh

As well... Why not just buy the .net? It's been available most every time I've checked.

Dumb.

Funny! I' ve never heard about something similar until now, or at least for such an extended period of time..

I'm sure some people hate me as I should prune a few out of my portfolio but usually too busy with building/updating websites to analyze so just hit bulk renew on 500+, keep watching them I never drop anything as I don't have time to analyze :1orglaugh

Should email him back and say I've decided to cancel the project but I'm going to continue to renew it as I now look forward to our conversations friend. :1orglaugh

I'm in a very different boat. A few years ago I sold almost every URL I had, and if it didn't sell, I let it expire. I kept this one simply because it was the first 100% adult domain I ever owned, and I figured I'd be back one day anyhow. That's all.

Its value to me is more or less sentimental, but my sentiment can be purchased with money in most cases.

I consider this guy to be an ultra-troll. I've even told him on several occasions to make an offer. I once even offered to lease it to him and shoot the nameservers anywhere he wants me too. Not a single time has he replied to either idea. All he does is write sad letters about me stealing from him and cry about me not allowing it to expire.

Like a child throwing a tantrum over a cookie that he's never had, and not allowed to have. I've even told him to take his concerns to icann and directnic and have them contact me about the very sad situation. No word on if he did, but I would assume chances are that he did. He seems that dumb. :1orglaugh

I've gotten a few emails over the years from the made up "I'm a broke college student I can only afford $50" which 99.9% of the time are bullshitters looking for deals. Surprised they have never made you an offer if they want it that bad.

My first adult domain was picked up after it expired many years ago but now available. My second adult domain/site was sold to a member here many years ago. Thought about buying the second one back but would only be for sentimental value.

Me too. By now if the guy would have socked away $5 a month and offered me the amount he'd saved yearly, I would have sold, no doubt about it.:2 cents:

I think you'd cave for a beer offer :drinkup :1orglaugh

He has added value to the domain. Now if you do sell you not only have a domain for sale but a free yearly friend comes with it. :thumbsup

Why don't you just do that?

I just recently bought an adult domain name, and started getting weird emails about it??

I may have to make mine private.

lol. I hate to be honest.... :winkwink: I never gave domain privacy a thought... :upsidedow

Why not offer to sell it to him, or even better, lease it to him? What you may want to do is structure a deal whereby you lease the domain to him for some cash up from and a small revenue share, and make the deal renewable each year. This way you make money and still keep control of the domain and create a new business relationship at the same time.

anonymous email will still forward to ya, plus that eliminates the fun of a domain stalker showing up to your house with free cookies :1orglaugh

Offered and ignored, several times.

I purchased the domain name of my own name many years ago. Almost immediately, I was contacted by a guy asking me who in the hell I thought I was to be buying that domain name.

People are indeed stupid. :disgust

Exactly. :thumbsup

I honestly look forward to November.

The mail that thanks me... Followed shortly by the one that is so fucking insane and out of bounds it seems to balance my whole online life out.

For two years I had a gif of a dog watching a woman bake cookies while photos from WWII and Vietnam flashed on the screen with the background as a flash tiedye swirl that you could manipulate with mouse movements, and the title was something like 'I pay money each year so that I can post this picture.'

The dog was great. I'm going to have to dig that up now.

Awesome times.

I do have plans for the site, I'm just busy drinking and being lazy at the moment....

danevans 01-06-2014 03:10 AM

another vote for renewing it until 2024 :) plus if you change whois info for fun and put a "website coming soon, we just got this domain very cheap" the guy will hang himself

jmcb420 01-06-2014 03:23 AM

I can not commit to a 10 year ownership deal. That fucks up the whole deal, and I don't want anyone hanging themselves over a shitty domain.

I will renew it yearly.

In the event that november arrives and I've not done anything with it...goates.

And it'll stay that way until I do something.

Believe me, I'm holding on to this one until the day I stop breathing no matter what. I'm a dick like that.

CurrentlySober 01-06-2014 06:01 AM

i kunt a4d 2 maintain ownership of a URL for probably six or seven years now... :(
