But do gambling phone apps have the same problems in the usa?

by "problems" do you mean that they are illegal? Because in most states online gambling is prohibited. This will change for many states this year...big market and lots of money to be made ;)

It will explode once when and if sports and other forms of gambling are made legal and mainstream. But those who really want to gamble online while living in the States are already doing so without issues.

What I find interesting is sites like game show network. You buy tokens to compete for prizes. Seems like a smart way to do things. Using the GSN brand, advertising free games, but making it possible to buy more tokens. Would love to know how much they make off that.

Is it illegal to do online gambling if one lives in the US? Or is it illegal to run a US based casino site? Is the law the same for Canada as well?

Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware have legalized it but there are restrictions. My guess is, you have to be giving money to Harry Reed, Chris Christie, or Joe Biden to get in on it.
