Hey if I buy a Windows 8 laptop can I downgrade it to 7?
 

I want to buy a laptop today or tomorrow. I dont want to buy it then find out that theres an issue that you cant downgrade it to Windows 7, like the hardware only works with Windows 8, etc.

Do you know if its possible or if they made it hard to do so?

i'd rather install classic shell - gives you the look and feel of win 7

depends on the hardware since some doesn't have drivers for Win7...
it's better to just install Start Menu 8 or Classic Shell and keep the W8...

The new start menu is coming in Windows 8.2 in April though

You can if you have windows 8 pro. But you may experience some issues in the future for running older OS on newer hardware.

Only pussies downgrade to 7. Better adapt to windows 8.

Best OS is Ubuntu 12.10 with wine installed for your windows programs

why downgrade if you can buy windows 7 laptop?

Why would you want a windows that runs and boots slower? Just download classic shell.

While certain aspects of the "upgrade" might be faster, the payoff with the downgrade in functionality is not worth it to everyone at this time.

Hopefully they will get it right with Win 9 and the rest of us will switch from 7 to 9 but as far as I am concerned (and I am not alone in this) Win 8.x is a frankenOS that tries to do BOTH mobile and laptop/desktops and ends up doing neither of them well.

MS tried to sell Windows Vista as an upgrade as well and it was by and large greeted with the same lukewarm reception as Win 8 has received...those who held out for Win 7 were happy they did. :thumbsup

Check the hardware first, some dont support downgrade like HP. You might have to rethink first, downgrading doesnt mean it will make your life easy. Goodluck!

Downgrade is the correct word.

I just commented in another thread about this - there are some nice systems that are off-lease on TigerDirect that have warranties.

Nonetheless, I just learned that if you buy a system from Best Buy, they'll do a free downgrade as long as you provide the Windows 7 copy.

Once you boot into the Desktop it is just like Windows 7.

You act like you are back in Dos and have to type all the commands.

Windows 7 is the best I had so far.
Buy Windows 7 instead.
