The Hun blacklists people for showing ads when someone gets a 404?
 

I tried to submit a gallery to thehun the other day only to see:

sorry, this is blacklisted
Redirects 404 to ads

Nothing starts my day off right like a good blacklisting!

Well here is how my htaccess file was originally set up (which was provided to me by my hosting company, I just added in my own url and IP address):

From what I understand, the code above should make it so anyone that gets a 404 is transferred to the root url, loadedgirls.com, right? So what's wrong with that? You get blacklisted for that?

Here's an example of a gallery I had listed on the hun before:

I tested a bunch of other galleries that were listed on thehun today and almost all of them displayed ads on their 404 pages. What is the difference whether I make a special 404 page with ads on it like everyone else seems to do, or whether I just send 404's to my main url? I don't get it.

All the surfers have to do is hit their back button if they get a 404. I had no popups or anything stupid like that. And there were no actual 404 errors in any of my galleries. The only way someone would get one is if they started snooping around in the directories, trying to find jpegs without clicking on anything.

I changed it now so 404's go to this page. Too little, too late I guess.

I emailed thehun already but I'm sure he gets about 100 of these messages a day.

I give up.

I got blacklisted by the Hun once. Back when I was with prohosters they fucked up my servers HD mirroring so that my gallery page wasn't working, but my htaccess was.. so everything got redirected to my 404 page.

All it took was a couple of emails and an explanation to get my domain off the blacklist. Might take him a day or two to get back to you, but he's a reasonable guy.. and he answers his mail.

I'm assuming my domain is blacklisted. I don't think my host could have anything to do with it since it is paid hosting. I check all my galleries before they are submitted for broken links.

Show us your gallery url....Maybe we can see it then...

I just went through and manually checked both of the last two galleries I submitted before this and neither had broken links or images.

I had the same problem myself.

I actually took out my htaccess altogether. I'm still getting the same error message though. Although, when my error message comes up, it says "Nothing found in blacklist, redirects 404 to sponsor".

When I emailed him, he told me that as long as your htaccess is ONLY redirecting bad traffic (i.e. hotlinkers) you shouldn't have a problem.

His previous email to me stated however that most htaccess's are done incorrectly and that is why he doesn't like them and why I kept getting that error. Also note that I wasn't placed on the blacklist, which is really what I was worried about.

I'm sure when he responds you'll see he is very reasonable. If you aren't a cheater, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

If you do read this though Hun, I'm still getting the same error message. I'll get around to sending you another email about it in the next couple of days.

Getting my name on a list of cheaters is mostly what I was worried about too.

Can somebody that knows what they're doing with htaccess take a look at the code I originally posted and tell me if that is how it should be done?

I've modified it now to include this line:

I would definately say screw The Hun and set up your 404 pages for the optimal return.

A few months back I finally put a counter on some of my 404 pages. I was amazed at how much traffic I received to the 404's....AMAZED!! So, by trying to please the HUN, you are losing out on the 404's from all of your other traffic.

It's your call, but I personally feel that I am better off losing the Hun's blessings, and collecting from all my other traffic.

Nah, I just submit to him with a different "unprotected" domain now.

All of my other domains still have the htaccess file.

How unique was the traffic? If your 404s are coming from galleries, then it's probably people hunting around for other pics in the series by changing the URL.

I used to get accepted there all the time, with the same htaccess file as I use now.

One day, exactly the same error message as above.

I'm on paid hosting, all my galleries are still there from the day i did them. I emailed him too, a couple of times, but he never got back to me either :(

Hopefully he sees this thread and will reply.

Perhaps the answer is as someone else said, use a separate domain to submit to thehun with no htaccess.

Right now I'd be happy with just getting my name off the list of cheaters.

I just restarted my browser and pasted the gallery url into my browser and it still works fine for me.

I don't understand how you could be getting broken images.

The problem with some htaccess redirects is that they redirect traffic with an unknown referrer... I go by many URL's, mostly got from people that had typo domains before they met my attorney ;-)

Anyway, if I list a domain and get many complaints from people about redirects the only option I have is to blacklist it. I can not link to a domain that redirects my visitors anywhere. If a redirect is failsafe, no problem, but the only way to do that is to only redirect traffic coming from sites known to hotlink. Redirecting everybody coming from an unknown source will result in too many redirects. For hotlink protection you're indeed on the safe site, but "innocent" surfers are redirected as well.

... and how many of those people would click a banner and sign up for something? Image you're surfing on a gallery expecting to see a picture. Instead you get ads. You'd feel screwed, you'd loose all trust in the people that pulled this stunt on you. Would you trust your creditcard information to people that tricked you? I don't think so...

Anyway, I ran http://www.loadedgirls.com/ through the bot, went through without a problem, so this should be fixed. If not, please drop me an e-mail.

Ya they do that alot, list MPEGs numbered mp1, mp2, mp4, mp5 ect and you'll get a shitload of hits looking for Mp3, put a redirect hell there and get the 5 cents a click..LOL..
