One suggestion: Read the series (the entire original series), THEN watch the movies.

I agree, Children of Dune looks great.

I'm looking forward to Riverworld!

I used to be addicted to the computer game when it came out.

I was a pretty big fan of Dune.
Started with the computer game and loved it.

Read the prequel novel: 'House Atredies' and thought it was great.
Dune was excellent.
The movie was kinda weak though.

However the other books in the series were horrible.
Dune: Messiah
& Children of Dune - were very boring

Has anyone here read those books?

Bill8 03-04-2003 04:51 PM

Dune Messiah and Children of Dune are not as good as the first book, altho they are still a bit interesting in their own light. The books that follow, starting with God Emperor of Dune and the final two whose names slip my mind at the moment, are quite a bit better, Herbert had time to think out the universe a bit more.

Excellent book.

:2 cents: Well the cinematograhy looks great and the book that this new movie is being taken from is well written and does a good job of moving the storyline forward! :thumbsup

I think the miniseries is set to start a week from this Sunday on the SciFi channel. :)

They need to make Robert Jordan's shit on the big screen. Blow Tolkien out of the water.

I've been a big fan of Dune games - never read any books though. The last dune movie was pretty good (the remake - its like 4.5 hours long)

Recently i've decided to read the books and got started with the prequels: House Atreides, House Harkonnen, House Corrino.

Just finished House Atreides - it was fucking awesome.

Danny_C 03-05-2003 08:13 AM

What the hell?

Ok, the first Dune book: Great book!

The next two: Even fuckin better!

The last three: The best books ever written.

Now, as for the prequels: Half ass attempts to keep the series alive. But Brian Herbert is only half the writer Frank Herbert was.

Do yourself a favor: Don't read the prequels until after you've read the real series. And don't stop at the second or third books.
