Mr. DynaMo

What's your opinion on this one? It's a 52' R with the original p90's
I've been on the hunt for one of these for a while. I popped for it today. Should be here in a few days. Got it from a collector in N Cal.

hard to say, i'm gonna need to play that one for several months to give you a solid hell yah!

:1orglaugh

Exactly.. It's built to all the original specs. And the tailstock...it's art :)

i have no words.

ok, a few words..........

congrats! i can't imagine a guitar like that rly.

and i didn't even know there was such a thing as a trapeze + wrap around config like that.

:1orglaugh

there doesn't appear to be binding on the body, but i see there is on the fingerboard, i have always assumed the early ones had binding on the body but no eh? are the back and sides dark brown? my 60s trib goldtop has a very similar finish, vintage gold gloss, no binding, dark brown back and sides.

Minte 12-20-2013 08:00 PM

Thanks.. My goal is to get one each of all the 50's reissues by the end of next year. This 52' is one that I am excited about. There's a real good chance I am going to be able to play with one of my guitar heroes next summer on stage and this is the guitar I am going to use.

I don't collect guitars for an investment,. I play them. However, there are guitars in my collection that have appreciated in value 1000% since I originally bought them. And the next generation will make money on all of them if/when they decide to sell them.

That is really cool! Is that modeled off an ES175? The horn really looks like that.

How does it sound?

it's epi's version of the es125tc, it sounds super! the guys at the epi wiki didn't even know that silver sparkle was a production color until they saw this one, they've since added it to the wiki! :1orglaugh

You are really getting a nice collection going. You realize you do have to have at least one pointy. It's essential to have a shredder!

thank you, about the only other thing i've collected are vintage levis. this is a lot of fun,

and like you, i'm right side up on them all, more due to scouring out deals rather than any noticeable increase in value. nevertheless though. :)

now, what's a pointy? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

also, i'm figuring gibson has reissues for each year of lp from 1952-59? so you have the 52, a 57 and a 59 now right?

That has to be a genentic ability. I have been playing a longgggggggg time and I can't play that fast. I might be able to come close for 30 or so notes but to sustain a riff like that is unique.

That's actually a really good price, assuming it's genuine? They don't pop up often and when they do the pricetag is more in line with the 57' you posted.

Good reason not to shop ebay. I have the same guitar except mine was built in 2007. It's not worth anywhere near $84,000. If someone offered me $20k for mine, I'd fuel up the plane and deliver it personally.

looks real sharp, Minte.

i like binding on guitars, it's very classy and classic without being fancy.

i'm curious, how do you set the intonation on this guitar? ere there compensators on the underside of the bridge?

edit, now that i think about it, compensators underneath would not work!

I saw that new Xbox game that teaches you how to play an electric guitar. The last lesson I had was over 30 years ago and I can still play, but want to continue. I may have to give that game a try. I guess you plug your guitar into something and it teaches you. I had a piano keyboard like that for the kids, it was fun, so I might try that.

the game is rocksmith and i'm using it to learn guitar, it's fantastic. i've learned several songs to this level even.

this is my latest score on "born under a bad sign", i've been learning for 6 months now and can play both the srv arrangement and the albert king one above 100% !1

I ordered a Gerlitz polish kit the other day and just finished tidying up the ES335 /p90 after a 30 minute practice session. The guitar looks amazing. Better than when I bought it. I am giving the kit a big:thumbsup.

I've got a Dunlop 65 kit too. The Gerlitz is a lot better product. It comes with a nice size micro-fiber rag for that nice luster. I still like the standard yellowish Fender rags for getting in around the pups, etc

good to know. :thumbsup

what are you using for fret board cleaner and oil? when i get a used guitar, the first thing i do is cut the strings off and clean all the floxum and jestam off. i'm always pretty disgusted by how poor peeps treat their guitars! argh. then they call it relic'd :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

finger crud is not relic!!

I was using a product called MusicNomad. Works good as a quick cleaner and darkwood conditioner. The Gerlitz kit came with one that works as well, but smells better.

BTW..thanks for posting that LP vid. I really enjoyed that.
