help with a design

uh, just wondering if this can be done with hahahahahahahahahaha or something, i really really hate frames, looking for something that's pretty streamlined.

designing a new site in fireworks. i'd like to define the whole site with exacts... basically 800x600. but, i want a scrollable box that doesn't look like one of those lame text boxes (for galleries and such). kinda lke the picture below, if anyone can help. i appreciate it.

arg. ok, i didn't even realize that. the word is apparently banned...

j a v a s c r i p t.

that's it. actually, it doesn't need to be done with that, either, i just figured that's easiest.

guess i should have re-read my post after it was displayed.

use an i-frame and use j-avascript to decorate the scroll bar on your page being i-framed. or you could do it in flash. :)

iroc409 03-04-2003 01:24 PM

alright. i'm old-school, what the fuck is an hahahahahaha?

iroc409 03-04-2003 01:27 PM

arg. people really don't like this stuff around here, eh?

ok. i-frames look a lot like regular frames, is this the case? and it doesn't appear that you can limit the side-scrolling of an i-frame. possible?

yes, i-frames work like regular frames but you can make them 'invisible' if you want. To limit side scrolling just put a fixed size table around content on the page that you're i-framing.

:)

hahahahahahas.. agrees... or dhtml... but thats fucked shit... hahahahahahas are the way to go. Easy... simple.. and quick.

ok. good to know the side scroll thing.

i'll try them out. i've always been very anti-frames, but we'll see :thumbsup

they sound cool at least, anyone know about browser compatibility with them?

I-frames won't work on older versions of netscape, but they work fine on all the current browsers. it's really all about why you'd want to use them... for an 'updates' type thing they are great because you can have a shitpot full o' updates in a very small area of real estate. :)

iroc409 03-04-2003 04:54 PM

well, i appreciate everyone's info, and i'm going to play around with them. although i've always been morally opposed to frames.
