Do you know a male hurricane?

Why hurricanes are always female? I mean people name them with female names like Katrina or Sandy. Why not hurricane Bill, Mike or something?

The Hun 12-18-2013 12:19 AM

ever heard of google? :-)

they have female names 'cause when they leave they've taken everything: your car, your house...

A male hurricane is called a himmicane BTW...

ok, ok... extremely lame answers, but I thought they'd match the question...

CurrentlySober 12-18-2013 05:18 AM

i know that I'd like to touch you, innaproprialy?

ottopottomouse 12-18-2013 06:02 AM

I think the name list alternates female>male>female>male>female>male... but they are named when they are far out to sea and a lot never reach the land to do any damage. You only remember the ones that destroyed somewhere.

Ever heard of Hurricane Andrew. It slammed into FL causing Billions in damages.

crockett 12-18-2013 07:09 AM

Before Andrew there was a Hurricane David back in 1979. I remember riding that one out as a kid in FL. It was a cat 5, that ran the entire coast line of the US from the keys all the way to Maine.

There was also Gilburt or Gilbert in the 80's, caused billions in damage as well. I can still remember my cousin crying about hurricane Andrew going to fuck us up in Wisconsin when we were kids, haha.

In 1978, meteorologists watching storms in the Eastern North Pacific began using men's names for half of the storms. Meteorologists for the Atlantic ocean began using men's names in 1979.

They need to start naming Hurricanes after climate change deniers... "Hurricane Michelle Bachman destroyed 500 Miles of South Carolina today.... "

In 1978, meteorologists watching storms in the Eastern North Pacific began using men's names for half of the storms. Meteorologists for the Atlantic ocean began using men's names in 1979. For each year, a list of 21 names, each starting with a different letter of the alphabet was developed and arranged in alphabetical order (names beginning with the letters Q, U, X, Y and Z were not used). The first tropical storm of the year was given the name beginning with the letter "A", the second with the letter "B" and so on through the alphabet. During even-numbered years, men's names were given to the odd-numbered storms and during odd-numbered years, women's names were given to odd-numbered storms (see the table above for recent name lists).
