I did not get into any of this to "become rich" per se. I just wanted a decent living and to work for myself. |

I wasn't trying to get rich. After Hurricane Marilyn destroyed my mainstream photo/video business, I decided the best thing was to pursue opportunities that did not rely on a local customer base and so turned my new Internet porn hobby into a business...
Still rolling with the punches, but also eyeing more mainstream photo/video work again (even though I know better) |
One thing you need to do is be very careful who you partner with. You wouldn't want to end up in a position where you've helped build a multi million dollar company and have a buddy/boss screw you in the end.
The only way to get rich in this business is to have some good ideas and know how to build out and market them yourself. |
In 93 working with a company in LA that was doing phone sex, and we picked up an online content delivery system from Virtual Dreams Inc. In 94 we got a merchant account from First Bank of Beverly Hills, and they gave us a POS machine. People would BBS their card numbers to us and someone would punch them into the machine, and we would BBS back a password. Got out of the business in 96 to run a big call center in Iowa, then moved to Miami in 99 and started with a billing company as online billing had now become automated. The company went down in 02 and I started my own company at that point. Had various partnerships with alternative billing projects, built and sold a Check21 business, and still have my company today. Only about 15% of my revenues are in adult these days, but I still have a ton of friends in this business.

the adult industry has been good to me so far.

Doctor told my parents my dick was in the 96th percentile so they groomed me for the adult business but I realized there was no money on the performer side so I decided to get into the online business. The rest is history.

Started with AC Gold back in the day :)
Then owning and promoting pay sites Now Cams Never got "rich" but have always been very comfortable :) |
I started with BBS -> then Newsgroups in the mid-90's, then bought a bunch of content and started a series of AVS sites under Adult Check and Validate.
By 1999, I had a fairly established and popular adult site that the Models and Playmates were mentioning everywhere, from the Glamourcon's to appearances on Stern, from guest hostesses mention us on Entertainment Tonight to an E! show at the time called "Wild On" giving us mentions from their guest hostesses. That site is still going strong to this day. Of course, we've since branched out in several other areas and diversified revenues along the way. There's still a lot of good people to work with in this industry, and some very smart entrepreneurs. And you can still make a comfortable living -- and doing it honestly ;) |

Got the gig amd turned into a job running screwmag.com for al goldstein , one of the main guys in print xxx with hef and flynt. He was a super wack job and eccntric beyond imagine. Walked around the office with a gun in his belt when he got paranoid. My desk was litteraly in a closet (que gay jokes) Thank got I got out of there! Now I'm rich! |
I was blessed with an amazingly talented mother who decided to teach me her skills :)

I've been here for over fifteen years. I've been so lucky - I've always made really good money, lived well, just bought a vacation house... Life is great.
I'm still making money, life is sweet. Don't see this changing any time soon. |
Doing it for the 'Free' Pr0n
I just joined the Industry for the 'Free' Pr0n.
Just kidding lol |
After creating several thousand 'fantasy bondage' photo-art images in the mid-90s that became a constant fixture on alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.bondage newsgroup...a friend suggested (in 1999) we launch and display them on a website.
He and I created KastleArchives.com We had no master plan or money-making aspirations - it was just a novelty hobby to do at the time. But we were caught off-guard. Much to our surprise it caught fire rather quickly. Within a matter of weeks we were exceeding the 2gb/day bandwidth allowance with our free hosting (GoCasino). They notified us they were giving us the boot. So we shifted gears, switched hosting...reformated to a paysite. Soon after we expanded with our own bondage photography - launched a second site, then a third...and a fourth. |

4 years ago I was robbed 3 times in 2 weeks, so I was stuck in a shitty apartment on a big campus with no food or anything at all, really.. So I went out on move out day and found 3 computers in an alley and rigged them together to barely work, running around 400MHz, 128Mb RAM, XP that was hacked so it only loaded IE from CTRL+ALT+DEL and restarted every 45 minutes without warning, using an intermittent internet connection at 0.7Kbps. Then I cashed a bunch of small PPS program checks at local smoke shops until I was able to get my own house in a nice part of town where I grew up. :)
Slow start, but I'm happy as hell now pulling my way out of poverty with internet marketing. :upsidedow |
Great story! Good Luck!

LA Traffic
I had this nasty commute each day from the OC to Lockheed in Burbank, so one day, I am sitting in LA traffic circa 1998 (thank god for howard stern!) and heard on the radio that a recent study found that one of the most searched items on the internet was NUDE CELEBRITIES. I thought wow, work at home and no commute!! so I launched a small Celebrity paysite through IBILL. It actually did fairly well considering I managed it on a part time basis, made about 32k a year off it until IBILL imploded.
Then one fateful day I happen to have a discussion with one of my members - Steve Jones. He mentioned he started this cheerleader site LS-University.com and was doing quite well with it. He was extremely helpful in getting me started and I eventually hooked up with the owner of THURSDAY NIGHT VIDEO (also a member), who had some incredible looking models and truly amazing content. I told him he would make a lot more money having a paysite rather than selling videos online, so THURSDAY NIGHT VIDEO became TNVGirls. The site wound up doing very well considering that I still managed it on a part time basis, and you all know this business definitely requires a full time commitment to have good success. I closed the site a few years back to focus more on my mainstream job. Then last year after numerous former members pleaded with me to put TNVGirls back online so I opened the doors again. Only issue is I am an R&D guy, I can make a great product but am totally lacking in marketing skills. Yes, that is a hint, I am always looking for good marketing help :) |
I got some AOL spam in 1996 telling me I could make millions; for just $25 I would be set up. At the time I was so broke that my girlfriend gave me the $25.

Started as a university student back in '03 - 04 running two livecam studios (I wish I would start building quality freesites back then).
Came up with a proposal for my most ambitious gig in '05 when I became the go to guy plus a site revamp + TV licensing initiator for Big Sister Media (televized sexhouse), traveled across half the world promoting it. Tried to build a substantial traffic network from '10 to '11 (during the time my non compete applied) - put together a strategy after reading most of the Google patents, but Panda pretty much killed it, causing a downturn to about 5 pct. of its (till then) rising traffic. Worked with GSS Interactive after as a marketing manager for about a year (great times). Did and still do some per project PR work. All and all - I guess I may have been involved in just about any part of the business already - looking forward to the next challenge. |
i just like to turn a profit whenever i have to pay for pussy :upsidedow
