Why do so many designers have issues

With family members dying, getting sick or some other type of disaster after they get sent their deposit? :Oh crap

Mediamix 12-14-2013 08:41 AM

Yea I have my own company, and when I had my heart attack and then the cancer I was 100% always upfront, if I couldn't finish the project I would refund etc.. Good luck at finding someone good.

And those of us who weren't dicks just let you keep all the money and not need to do the work, no matter how much you insisted you be allowed to finish. You were going through enough without worrying about deadlines. :thumbsup

loreen 12-14-2013 09:40 AM

I am a designer who had no such "issue" so far. Knock on wood, though, shit can happen :)

MrBottomTooth 12-14-2013 09:42 AM

Just look for the Hungryman approved logo and you will be ok.

signupdamnit 12-14-2013 10:22 AM

Because a lot of the money has disappeared from the industry so fewer are full time and now have other obligations (jobs). With less money they are also more desperate and can't afford to refund you and are more anxious to take even those projects they know they will have trouble completing.

You're drop-dead gorgeous, loreen. That's a health issue for the rest of us ...

Wellness Cash 12-14-2013 11:00 AM

It wouldn't be so bad if they actually said 'it should take a couple of extra days' rather than just vanish and then come up with some bullshit 'my grandmother died for the 25th time this year' excuse.

Most people understand getting overwhelmed with work, just communicate with clients and you'll probably find they are understanding about the situation, don't just vanish... Especially when you know they are on a tight deadline.

ottopottomouse 12-14-2013 11:38 AM

It's a proven fact that Indians have a minimum of 93 grandparents each just the same as cats have 9 lives.

freecartoonporn 12-14-2013 11:50 AM

let me guess, you hired someone from 3rd world.

No somebody off GFY actually who had a lot of good feedback whenever they post in a thread :1orglaugh

Lichen 12-14-2013 12:43 PM

it's not only designers, programmers too

Colmike9 12-14-2013 12:49 PM

I think it's a lot about taking too much at once and poor time management.

Plus the snow has made things shitty for me this month, and I'm guessing the same for a lot of others.. :/

Roald 12-14-2013 12:59 PM

Lol the alien q and hungry man jokes crack me up. Good old days.....

AffiliateFriendlyDesigns 12-14-2013 01:42 PM

Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

I can't comment on how other designers manage their business and their clients, but if anyone needs a reliable designer, please feel free to get in touch via email and I'll be happy to share our portfolio with you privately.

We have worked with GFY members to their satisfaction (in case you would like references for ease of mind)

We pride ourselves on reliable delivery times, mainstream quality and reasonable rates.

It's all the black whores and cocaine.

icymelon 12-28-2013 10:37 PM

I have always wondered how I can try to avoid having this issue. Hence I never ever pay until work is completed. no 50% up front. probably a lot of great peps who won't work with me because of that policy

Indeed. You have to choose your battles :)
"Never ever" is never a good sign :)

I think he's cooled off enough that he's now serious, I always liked his presence.
Hope the best for him and that he gets a good footing, he does have talent.

HomerSimpson 12-29-2013 03:15 PM

Designers are equally puzzled but here's a glimpse of the creative mind at work if you're interested http://www.matthewschuler.co/why-cre...make-no-sense/

Meanwhile, stop expecting Michelangelo to re-design the Sistine Chapel mural at a street sweeper's salary and you may get better results. Or better yet DO IT YOURSELF! But you can't can you? So quit bitching about why a genius brain doesn't respond to your slave wages, are you fucking nuts? :error

Rumbledog 12-30-2013 06:23 PM

I couldn't design my way out of a wet paper bag
