(Reuters) - "People using Bitcoins are on their own when it comes to losses, the European Union's banking watchdog said on Friday in a formal warning to consumers on the risks of using unregulated online currencies.

The European Banking Authority said there was no protection or compensation for people whose "digital wallets" are hacked, a transfer of virtual money goes wrong or a platform is shut.

The warning follows similar announcements from the Bank of France and the Chinese central bank."

I'm waiting for the first big bitcoin crime. A large bitcoin holder, like some here, are victim of a home invasion. Fingers get cut off, shit beat out of them, family threatened, etc, until bitcoins are transferred to criminals account.

Almost the perfect crime because funds can't be traced ……….

There have been a couple of cyber-crimes with bitcoin. In one instance they have been able to track the coins across the barriers put into place since they day they were stolen from the guys wallet. The coins have as of yet to be recovered.

Same problem with paper money or gold, once it gets stolen you are shit outta luck
