Stupid question about ASIC and bitcoin mining
I remember back in the days the DirecTV cards having asic chips in them
You "had to have an asic" no matter what- even if you used emulation... you could emulate everything BUT the asic Well, I don't suppose that the asic from those cards would be worth anything for bitcoin mining... right? It's application specific something or other and the one on that smartcard probably has no real computing ability or anything?? Just thinking out loud (agaiN) |
ASIC means Application Specific Integrated Circuit
In other words, an ASIC chip is designed specifically for the type of device it is installed in. A set top box ASIC will be designed to receive video. A Bitcoin ASIC is designed to SHA256 hash. |
I see
I see I knew it was a stupid idea but .. Thank you |
No need to preface the thread title with "stupid question."

mr. maxwell, please disregard SLy's callous comment, there are no stupid questions.
