Serious Question for "Stills Shooters" (No Poo - Honest)
 

Back in the day, (late 80s) while porn was more valuable, I used to shoot solo porn in reverse...

The girl started naked and gradually got dressed... This alleviated any underwear marks or any other improprieties....

Then, when porn went more 'mainstream' (The internet) quality was less important, & it became more of a production line... So I stopped bothering... Wasn't worth the effort anymore (Cost VS Time) etc...

So, the question is, for those NOT shooting video... Do YOU still bother to shoot in reverse?

My point was that virtually no one shoots JUST stills anymore, without also shooting video.

when I am shooting HIGH end (like magazine layouts) yes i still do it in reverse but its very rare magazines dont buy layouts like they used to

You can just get her to start stripping, on video, and then stop. Grab some stills, and say carry on... Or you can just *flash away* DURING the video (Classy) but I digress...
You can of course always grab the stills off of the video, in post, but thats not my point...

My point was, that before digital, when we shot on film, and turned it into chromes - and BEFORE photoshop existed for post, I'd shoot in reverse... Then, if the actual date of production ALLOWED for video equipment to be available to me - I'd reshoot the scene from fresh - after she had dressed - (Again - in a kinda reverse reverse if you get me)

I just wondered if people take the time to shoot in reverse today, or is it a lost art / tip / trick that has been consigned to History ?

Never shot in reverse. I just tell the girls to not wear a bra to the shoot. Done deal and EVERYONE shoots video.

After all you are not all about poo ..

We still do reverse shoots but only for high quality paid work ( high res photos for mags) for brick and mortar photo + video we just do it normal, clients just want content as cheap as possible. quality and glamour in a shoot for most part as disappear.

why shoot in reverse. i always remind the models NOT to wear a bra or panty arriving for hair and makeup. model is usually in really loose fitting sweats or something. no bra/panty means no lines. not rocket science.

I don't think I've ever shot a set in reverse as long as I've been shooting....

The girl is usually in hair/makeup for 1.5 to 2 hours so we just make sure that she isn't wearing anything that may leave marks while she's in HMU. If she doesn't bring a bath robe, we will offer her one. Then we dress her and start shooting. Sure, sometimes the garments will leave a mark between the time we put them on till we start taking them off but if they bother me, I'll just retouch it out in post.

Might have to try that reverse thing one day - sounds fascinating :winkwink:

My reasoning - Based upon PERSONAL EXPERIENCE - Like I said, before 'Post' was available...


Is that if you have a MUA on hand 27/7 during the shoot, then cool, but I didn't...

So I'd have my girl looking her very best naked, Hair / MU etc.... And that was the START of the shoot - the 'Money Shot' s to speak... Then as she got 'dressed' it wasn't the reverse of my scenario... It was the opposite..

I've known a few colleagues who say they've shot in reverse - but we've never done that. Like Dean says above - any small marks I'd remove in post-edit anyways. Never really been an issue.

Maybe it's worse with lily-white models - as opposed to well tanned girls?

even without makeup, girls should be arriving in loose clothes with no underwear. the pros will arrive that way without being told.

I've had models change outfits for stills... i.e. strip for one set than shoot the next set in reverse... but change the camera angle so I guess yes I have

I shoot a lot of solo photosets & solo videos and I've never shot in reverse. I just make sure the models don't have lines when they are doing hair & makeup.

I've never shot in reverse, but i only done stuff for the net, not some high and magazine covers.

Yeah. I also have been shooting stills for a long time and very rarely ever shot in reverse. Like dean said, just make sure she wearsoose fitting clothes for make up and you will be fine.

And for the record I shoot "JUST STILLS" quite often because I am an adult photography specialist and there are other videography specialists who shoot the video. So it wasn't such a crazy question. Lol.

Yes, but you shoot as a team photos then video... the video is still there.
I shot for Score for 2 years and we would shoot just still a few times a a week. They had magazines which are the big focus.

We shoot sequence backwards when it was important to do so.
