Tony Romo throws the worst 4th down pass attempt in NFL history

http://cdn0.sbnation.com/assets/3697...orromohaha.gif

It started so well for the Dallas Cowboys. The offense was humming on their opening drive against a suspect Chicago defense, with DeMarco Murray finding running room and Tony Romo hitting his receivers. Their first possession was a smooth 12-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to open the game. They backed that up with another touchdown on their third possession, but since that point early in the second quarter, the offense has frozen in the Chicago cold.

The offensive drought hit a low point early in the fourth quarter, when Dallas went for their first fourth down conversion of the season. The entire sequence was a mess, with Romo hurriedly barking out audibles to a confused Murray and Jason Witten as the play clock wound down. It led to this abominable attempt at?something on 4th and 9

I don't know why they keep him around..

Jerry Jones has been waiting years for this guy to blossom into Mr Superbowl. It ain't gonna happen. Ever. Not in any universe.

Tom Brady would cut off his own head on the field instead of doing something like that. Romo has a football DNA problem that can't be solved with any training or experience.

in this case, dna stands for

december: no action

No throw he will ever make is as bad as the field goal attempt he fumbled away as the holder in the last seconds of a game which would have put him in the playoffs. That play was so bad, it ended Bill Parcells coaching career. Romo is the ultimate choke artist, and that's something you can't coach out of someone at his age.

Jeffne 12-10-2013 08:22 AM

Yea, Allllllll Romo's fault. HE looked horrible while playing defense when HE gave up 42 points in Chicago's first 8 possessions.

Just like when HE gave up 51 points against Denver and 49 points against the Saints. Yea, allll Romo's fault.

Ladies & Gentleman Dallas has much bigger issues than Tony Romo.

dyna mo 12-10-2013 08:24 AM

we;re focusing on romo in this thread. we'd need an entire forum dedicated to the issues of that team to cover them all.

seeandsee 12-10-2013 08:28 AM

If this was after time went off, so last chance, he is one crying fucking baby to trow like that... wtf?

The problem with celebrity players / player celebrities is that if they win, HE is a hero. If they lose, HE is the loser. Join the ranks of who gives a fuck, won't you? You'll be glad you did. Join now.

A team is only as good as their QB..... and their D. In this case we definitely have a dallas team having a choke artist for a pivot and a D that has a bunch of holes that show up during the most inopportune moments during the most crucial of games.

I'm convinced more than ever that as long as the cowgirls keep Romo as their "guy" they will continue to have frustration year after year, playoffs after playoffs either out in round 1 or missed altogether.

An arguable opinion of course, but so far accurate.

Romo is to Dallas as McNabb was to Philly.

He plays much more like Farve than McNabb... He is like Farve without the consecutive games streak.

VikingMan 12-10-2013 01:31 PM

That defensive player was going to pummel him if he held on for a split second longer.

L-Pink 12-10-2013 01:33 PM

Worst 4th down pass or best safely dumped pass in the face of unblocked blitz?

Not a Cowboy or Romo fan but Romo has the highest 4th quarter QB rating among active QB's. And it's not even close. That's about as 'clutch' a statistic as you can get.

Cowboy's D is a far larger problem then Romo.

MaDalton 12-10-2013 01:43 PM

Like you, not a Cowboy or Romo fan, but I think Romo takes too much flak. The reason he has to do some of the stuff he does is because the defense is terrible and they are always in a shootout. They also don't have much of a running game to help him out. If every team knows that Romo is going to have to throw the ball a million times in order for them to stay in the game defending him, and thus making him look bad, just got a whole lot better.

dyna mo 12-10-2013 02:05 PM

romo participates in deciding how that offense is ran. he can keep chuckin' the ball or he could hand it off, like what was working last nite, murray averaged 8+ yards per carry last nite.

Slick 12-10-2013 02:11 PM

I'm an actual Cowboy fan and even though Romo has been known to choke on occasion, he's actually having a pretty decent year. It is all about the defense though, it sucks this season, that new coordinator is horrible, sure back in 2000, he might've been able to run a good defense, but times change and he sucks.

I do believe a QB is a huge part of a team, look at the Packers without Rodgers, but in this case, I believe Romo is doing what he can to lead his team to a victory, it's just that the defense isn't keeping the other team from scoring and putting Romo back on the field more often.

I agree, the guy can just not get the whole package together and they have given him enough of a chance.

They have had some shitty seasons. It might be that he gets soft d's as they are playing prevent.

NaughtyVisions 12-10-2013 05:10 PM

As an Eagles fan, I love how Romo plays in December, and hope Jones keeps him around until his contract expires in 2019. :pimp

dyna mo 12-10-2013 05:50 PM

also, nfl defenses in general this year are on their heels against the offenses, not just dallas d. gruden pointed out last nite that to have this year's record setting scoring is not a necc. good thing, it's defense letting those scores happen.

*Cough* The Eagles "horrible" defense (as the beat writers describe it) has held their opponents to 21 points or less in 9 straight games. Maybe the other defenses are on their heels, but in the second half of the season, Philly's D has grown stronger.

Yep. The biggest issue is that so many people are fooled into thinking Tony Romo's sorry ass could ever get them anywhere.

mozadek 12-10-2013 06:44 PM

That was actually a good pass, Romo got the job done. He avoided a sack for a big loss and managed to dump the ball without committing intentional grounding.

i'm gonna go with gruden on this. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

certainly you can see that statistics will rank the defenses. but again, gruden's point is valid, this is the highest scoring season in nfl history. that's due to weak defenses.

I live in Illinois and I'm a huge Bears fan. I make fun of Tony Homo all the time.

but, just goes to show how many people here don't really understand the technical aspects of football.

He didn't even get a chance to complete his 3 step drop from the shotgun before the blitzer came untouched from the line. Had he not dumped that pass and held onto it, he would have probably lost about 15 yards on that play and gave the Bears field position inside their own 50.

As far as decisions go, that is probably one of the better decisions he made all game.

people don't need to sharpen their fucking pencils and roll up their sleeves preparing to watch a football game. we get beer and pizza and get together with friends and enjoy ourselves.

try it sometime.

Life is about context. When I watch a game, I watch the game. When people discuss aspects, I'm intelligent and discuss the aspects.

If that bothers you, please feel free to pop open another Keystone Light and formulate your troll retort.....We can get something more in tune with your comfort level and intelligence. Perhaps you can give us a sideline report on how many pieces of pepperoni came on the pizza. That way you can contribute without having to feel all angry because smart people are talking.
