Are the Masons still pretty powerful?

If I could get into the masons, then, would that be a good move? Would it open any doors for me?

Some of my very close family were extremely very highly ranked members and I apparently can be grandfathered

Well, each to their own, I suppose...

If you are looking to make connections by joining a club, I recommend Scientology.

geedub 12-07-2013 11:00 AM

I remember a kid in my highschool had a dad who was a mason. Once a month they got together for breakfast at Perkins. Sounds powerful as fuck to me.

L-Pink 12-07-2013 11:05 AM

I get confused, are they the ones that wear lampshades on their heads or is that the Shriners?

You can be grandfathered huh?

Here's an idea....know something about the group before you make ridiculous posts like this that identify you as an idiot, a liar, or perhaps both. :2 cents:

That's the Shriners but you have to be a Mason to be a Shriner.

It's the original social networking club. It will open new doors of opportunity, but don't go in looking for special favors to make you money.

Forest 12-07-2013 11:42 AM

I know several Masons and have thought about trying to join as they do a TON of work in the community

The Shriners in Kentucky are big into helping disadvantaged children. There is a Shriners Children Hospital and numerous big fund raising campaigns.

JockoHomo 12-07-2013 11:49 AM

Talk about getting "grandfathered" in...

Or is that in grandfather? :1orglaugh

The Shriners are that way everywhere. That's what makes them Shriners.

"When Shriners International was first founded in 1872, the organization built on the principles that guided Freemasonry, while adding an element of fun and, ultimately, philanthropy......."

mikesouth 12-07-2013 02:08 PM

First of all NOBODY can "join" the masons.

You have to be accepted

There is no "grandfathered in" either.

Yes you can "Join" If you want to. You can even buy mason rings and other jellery if you want to as well lol

We speak to them on thier stand at shows . The last show we went to, there were about 10 of them in thier little show caravan trying to get people to join lol

They even gave me a little booklet and invited me to one of thier lodges lol

I actually found the whole thing pretty funny cause they were all old guys looking for "camaraderie".

Of course they still have thier old ways and some lodges are more open than others but it is not the society it used to be way back it has changed a lot

mikesouth 12-07-2013 03:01 PM

Methinks yall dont know what F&AM stands for

Zeiss 12-07-2013 03:01 PM

You don't just "get" there. You are usually invited. Powerful? Yes. But there is more powerful out there. You never know... Please make the difference between secret societies and societies with secrets.

Sorry total bullshit and its not a secret society at all, You dont have to be invited you can apply to be a mason and if they think you are of good character and will make a good mason they will let you join and it costs you money. My dad was a mason, its nothing special. You enter on an aprentice degree and then a fellowcraft and then a master My dad gave so much money to charity from his building company he owned through the masons, yes they do a lot of charitable work

In the late 1700's to early 1800's there were some disagreements that broke the Masonic Order into two separate lodges:

1: Free & Accepted Masons (F&AM)

2: Ancient Free & Accepted Masons (AF&AM)

In 1880 the two resolved their differences and are now considered one lodge.

Absolutely not true.

The Masons have an unofficial motto: 2B1 Ask 1

http://pictoumasons.org/images/Snap_...35m16s_012.png

The reason for this is that Masons are not allowed to "invite" people to "join." Of course, over the years some of the lodges have adapted and do this anyway. Mostly out of the need to survive. But that doesn't change the fact that it's actually against "Masonic law" to do so.

mineistaken 12-07-2013 04:39 PM

So basically any average joe can be mason easily? Its not that special then.. Something like a frat?

MrBottomTooth 12-07-2013 04:41 PM

I know a guy that is a mason who is basically a welfare bum. He's got a special mason ring though. That's the extent of his power..... Showing off his ring. What power could they possibly give you other than another social network? No different than joining a dart league or any other club.

Bourke 12-07-2013 04:45 PM

the mason today are pretty much the same as the Lions or Rotary clubs. Bunch of middle aged, middle class dudes doing a bit of charity work and networking with one another. Only the mason's have a little pomp and ceremony.

JFK 12-07-2013 04:49 PM

its a fraternal organization who's time has passed:2 cents:

srockhard 12-07-2013 04:51 PM

I am actually a journeyman bricklayer. I did my apprenticeship in Seattle at the International Masonry Institute and I've even got a real square and compass! When I was still active in the trade I would fill little bags full of bitcoins and put them inside the bricks before furrowing my mortar beds! Now look at me pedaling porn like its the Sunday paper.

SilentKnight 12-07-2013 05:56 PM

My grandfather was a Mason.

I still have a ceremonial sword of his.

your nothing-to-offer-ness is perhaps the reason you have not been invited?

jigg 12-07-2013 10:14 PM

one of my mother's business partners was a mason, had a really interesting ring. They raised money for orphanages and kid spaces in the city. Lots of networking as well though, with other business people and politicians

From what I've read Masons require belief in a deity to join, and are big on ethics and helping others

Ontario Hydro/Hydro One - Ontario's provincial electricity utility - is controlled by the Masons, and all OH contracts - some worth hundreds of million dollars, are decided upon and awarded by Kempenfeldt Lodge, A.F. & A.M. No. 673, GRC

I am not a mason but have been asked to become one more than once. I am pretty sure you are not what they are looking for in a new initiate.

If you want to go through the initiations you can become a mormon. They copied some of their rituals. from the masons. Some people think that is why Joseph Smith was killed. He did not keep the masonic rituals a secret. One of the famous initiations is the blood oath where an initiate gives an oath to not reveal any masonic secrets. If he does his throat will be cut.

To answer your question: Yes I believe they are still powerful. The small town where I live has a statue near city hall where a woman is reading a book. She is pointing to a page where there is the "all seeing eye" inscribed. Also the town logo is a pyramid and the entrance to the courthouse is pyramid shaped. These guys basically run the town.

Often masons want police and firefighters to join. They want people involved in the community. I doubt police and firefighters ever rise up too far in the masons but they are desired to be members for obvious reasons. There is also a good reason why some masons put logos on their cars.

I've wondered about the order before, might be worth looking into to, But I think being a member of the VFW might be better. They have cheap drinks and dinners
