McDonald's Introduces Poutine in Canadian restaurants

McDonald's has announced it will start serving poutine in all its restaurants across Canada.

The quintessentially Canadian dish -- made of fries, cheese curds and gravy -- was previously only offered at the chain's Quebec restaurants.

McDonald's will use Quebec cheese curds in its version of poutine, which will sell for $3.99.

In my old life, I loved to eat it, ironically, it's a good quality one.

L-Pink 12-07-2013 10:22 AM

Gross, I can't believe the things foreigners eat.

HighPlainsDrifter 12-07-2013 10:30 AM

It'a actually not bad as fast food goes.

" Poutine is a French-Canadian food that (very) slightly resembles American Gravy Cheese Fries (Uuukkkk), but is actually very, very different in many respects. Poutine is readily-available across Canada, but it only really tastes good in French Quebec or Maillardville, BC.

Warwick Quebec is the place where poutine was invented, and named, back in 1957 by restaurateur Fernand Lachance, who died recently at the ripe old age of 86, leaving not only his calorific imprint but also some serious questions about the low-carb fuss. Warwick still produces the very best cheese curds which is shipped all over Canada.

The best gravy also comes from Warwick, in a powder form that is mixed with water. Theirs is totally vegan and must be dark brown and just the right consistency when served.

Poutine is Acadian slang for mushy mess and is best described as a heart attack in a bowl.

By the way, there is a proper way to pronounce poutine, and it's not 'poo-teen'. The phonetic pronunciation is 'peu-tin', which always elicits a vacant stare when one orders it using that word."

:winkwink:

the only good poutines are made from fresh cut thick fries. not mcdonalds frozen shoestring fries.

poutine does seem gross, its nothing i can eat more than once or twice a year but it does taste pretty good though usually makes me feel like shit afterwards.

UPDATE

Just tried the McDee's new poutine fries - and in a word...disgusting. :Oh crap

For starters, the cardboard carton they come in was only half full (about the amount of a small fry). The grease-soggy fries were lukewarm - gravy (sic) wasn't hot enough to melt any of the cheese curds.

And well...I'm confident I'll be shartin' out the gravy in another half hour or so.

To top it all off - as usual...the counter girl completely fucked up our order (wrong burgers, wrong drinks). But that's typical for our local McDees. It's a running joke with the wife and I.

My wife's description of their poutine fries - "Absolute ca-ca."

I know...it's McDonalds. What the fuck do we expect...

Actually, I've *never* had a problem with McDonalds. Sure its fast food, but they always get my order right. It's always hot and served fast. In drive-thru's they've never got the order wrong nor even forgot the all-important straw or napkins. The service is always given with a smile, and every restaurant has been super-clean - even the bathrooms - which is more than I can say for other places I've seen. They actually do a fantastic job when it comes to customer service & satisfaction.

It generally comes down to management. If the place has a poor manager, it's reflected in the staff.

Sounds like your place has a good one.

We don't. In fact, the manager was also behind the counter earlier this evening while the girl fouled up the order. He didn't bat an eye or attempt to step in and offer apology or anything. Typical.

As predicted, the poutine gravy cleaned me out.

CurrentlySober would've been proud. :1orglaugh

I'm Canadian and I would not touch it either. So gross, I have never understood the appeal.

I remember that. That's why I was surprised to hear the announcement that McDonalds was 'introducing' poutines.
