Yesterday an Australian survey was published showing that 8 out of 10 Australian boys aged 16-17 have visited Internet porn sites, see:

Predictably the tabloid media, talkback radio shows and conservative politicians are now all whipping themselves into a state of hysteria regarding the issue and have started a brand new debate about the need for Government censorship of the Internet. I can hardly wait to see what they come up with this time!

Anyway today's Sydney Morning Herald carries an interesting editorial putting forward a much more nuanced argument regarding porn, teenagers and censorship:

I heard a snippet on the radio related to this, the govt spokeswoman said the only way to stop juveniles seeing porn is to monitor their usage

I don't want them cause they waste my bandwith without intent to buy. However, it would be a lie to say I wasn't looking at porn at their ages. Okay so it was old penthouse's and BBS and usenet porn but it was porn nonetheless.

Young boys are gonna get curious and look for smut, ESPECIALLY at the ages of 16-17. I'm sure that here in the US, it's probably hard to find a 16-17 year old virgin, ha ha ha. I lost mine when I was 13.

These assholes in office must think that young people don't think about sex at all until they hit 18. If they don't see it on the internet, they'll find other ways to see it. Once you hit the right age, you get curious about it and you do whatever it takes to see some titties :)
