When youre editing origional video is it normal to lose quality?

I have some origional video and now I'm working with it in Premiere 6 and the video is darker and lost a lot of the quality when running it thorugh Premiere.

Is this normal or is there a setting I'm missing?
Does this mean I should get a new video card or something else?

:helpme

I have seen the same thing when editing on my laptop but my desktop does not have that problem. It was suggested to me that it was the capture hardware that may have been causing it.

I would like to hear other possibilties as well.

Great topic. :thumbsup

Tried several and got the same results. Premiere is overkill and not user friendly so I only try it when others fail. It was no better in this case...As in most...

no, i downloaded it and didnt care for it.....plus it didnt like my source files....so it went in the trash.

ive used virtualdub, MGI Videowave 4, Uleads Video Studio 6, and one other prog i cant remember.
given the chance i think i might try Vegasvideo next....have heard good things :)

If you capture from analog you will lose quality, period. You are adding a generation.

If you do a digital dump (firewire), it should be exactly the same as what's on the Mini-DV.

Cheers,
