Hmmm... you know... why not?

You can buy drones at electronics, toy and hobby stores cheap (only a few hundred dollars). They are very sophisticated and come with multiple cameras, sensors and GPS. They are programmable with any computer or mobile device. Setup an account with your dealer. Send a text message for your order. A drone with your drugs is programmed in minutes and sent on its way to your location. Done deal.

You know, as I watched the 60 minutes piece and that showed the Amazon drones the first thing that popped into my head is that this could be huge from drug dealers and anyone selling illegal stuff that didn't weight a lot.

Cool but what is the range on them things? It can't be that far surely?

How does Amazon know they have delivered to the right address? You can't just leave it on their front lawn like in the video..

The piece on 60 minutes said that right now they have about a 10 mile range. They are run via GPS. They think they are likely 4-5 years away from this because they need to master how it flies and be able to make sure it gets to the right place without landing on someone or on your roof etc.

Think of it, a sky full of drones.....delivering our daily stuff. Maybe one day you can pick a drone and fly to the doctors...just like taxi....crazy monday morning world:-)

these issues are nothing for Amazon.

i saw a radio which has range of 35 Kms.

and few operate on GPS so they do not have issue about range, they can be pre-programmed to droop packets to desired address using GPS.

obviously they cant just leave the parcel on customers front lawn , what they can do is call the customer and tell him to collect the parcel via phone, as drones land on customers property. drones has camera too so amazon guys can watch remotely.

the main issue imho they will face is battery backup. but they can built lot more advanced drones with big monies.

I saw that on 60 Min , Great idea it needs FAA approval so I am assuming if anyone fucks with it in air or shoots it down it would be as if they fucked with a helicopter/airplane and then all federal charges?
