Buying a handgun in California
 

Just realized how fucking nazified the process for buying a handgun in california is. Passing a test, drivers license swipe, thumbprints, utility bill to prove residency.. fuckin-a.

Anyone have any tips on buying legally but relatively anonymously? There used to be a 'gunshow loophole' that allowed you to buy privately without all the State shit, but they seem to have closed that. Other than that I can't find anything.

Nevada on the other hand seems to be pretty wild west in its gun laws. No background check for private purposes, CCW permits easy to get, very few restrictions on type of weapons you can own. I'm thinking about just getting what I want in Reno on a ski trip and taking it back into Cali.. that maybe legal as long as the gun is stored correctly, not quite sure yet.

I admit to not knowing alot about handgun laws, or gun laws in general... other than the fact that Californias are particularly draconian. Thats why I was posting.

well id make sure its legally registered cuz last thing you want to happen is you have to use it and its not legally registered

well... I dont know it makes sense to me to purchase firearms legally.

The word "importers" refers to those who do this as a business and the DROS is not required if the gun in bought out of state.

I never had to get finger printed or any of the BS you mentioned when I purchased a handgun in California.....I just gave them a copy of my DD214 (military discharge), a copy of my drivers license and filled out a couple of pieces of paper.....waited 30 days and then picked the weapons up.....

buy a gun @ any STORE in any state & you have to go thru a waiting period, its federal. (7days) California has to one up all teh gun laws & makes it 10 days. the gun will be in your name! you have to pass the writen handgun test(if you fail you shouldnt beallowed out of the house! its so easy) Proof of residencey, & fit to own, (not crazy not a fellon) Buying a gun from a non dealer or @ a gun show, ad in teh paper. is hit or miss, if teh gun was already registered in previous owners name Hes not going to want it in his name , in your hands. so youll ahve to transfer, cost around $30. Goto a show buy a new gun @ a show from a dealer who doesnt give a fuck(& most dont) it pretty much a cash & carry. no paper work trail. if you ahve a gun registered in your name in CA its on your record!, who knows what kind of laws might come in teh future! you get pulled over & the cop knows your a handgun owner. keep that shit in mind.

I finally got my concealed weapons permit today....Shopping around on the net for a SIG 229, 40 or 45 caliber...

I live in Utah now, but will be moving out to california sometime soon...I'm wondering if I should buy my gun at a gun show here for when I move down to cali it won't be traceble? Or does it not matter, since the gun will be purchased in Utah it won't be tracebale in California? What you gun gurus think?

it only took me 3 weeks here to get my permit from the time I filed

I was reading on a message board it took some guy 9 months to get a permit in orange county a year ago

You pretty much cant get conceal permits in CA, & while OR, WA, NV, UT & WY all accept eachothers permits, its no good in CA. & they are issued by county here, & are not interchangable thru the differnt countys
