What's The Best Free Anti-Virus Software

I need something that is easy to turn off and on. In the past I've had issues with anti-virus software interfering with my surfing experience so usually I just uninstall it after one use.

spy bot coupled with an up to date registry cleaner

Has microsoft essentials been trumped now?

ErectMedia 11-29-2013 08:32 PM

I use a paid version of BitDefender which kicks ass but they do have a free one...

FlowerKid 11-29-2013 10:43 PM

Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free and not too bad.

Spunky 11-29-2013 10:45 PM

I wouldn't risk the free shit.spend a couple bucks for your security

+1 :thumbsup

I use Bit Defender Total Security for years after switching from Kaspersky and it runs flawless. Only reason I switched from Kaspersky was they weren't up to par on Windows 8 when it first came out. Always a deal to get it cheaper initially and then before it expires they always cut ya a deal to renew at a crazy discount as well. Amazes me people spend thousands on traffic, content, etc... and have no security or use a combo of free ones to achieve what 1 solid paid one will do. Bit Defender Free Version for those that refuse to pay for anything.

madtwin 11-30-2013 02:35 AM

I'm using BitDefender FREE and it's enough for me. Fast and eats up minimum system resources.

Try the free version and buy the Total Security package if you like it (and need it).

I second that advice.

FlowerKid 11-30-2013 05:11 AM

Well, even if you pay a lot, you never get 100% security. The trojans and viruses are always first and it takes time, also for premium products, to implement them into their scanners.

Avira antivirus, easy to turn off and good protection

BlackCrayon 11-30-2013 06:18 AM

i use comodo, i like that its an antivirus plus firewall but i find their newest free version is always pushing pay stuff.

Juicy D. Links 11-30-2013 06:30 AM

the "free shit" in the long run will cost you $$$$ ie: you catcha virus or something....

I use Kaspersky and as much as I thought i would never get anything it click a link it caught it for me...

HomerSimpson 11-30-2013 01:02 PM

AVG, Avast or Avira

try them out and you decide...

RJHere 11-30-2013 02:18 PM

Microsoft Security Essentials or Comodo

bernieburns 11-30-2013 03:09 PM

Yup! Me too!

Might pay more for a Mac up front, but between all of the Macs I own and have bought over the years, not one virus in 10 years. No issues, no crashes, nothing.

Fan boy?? Not really, just a Fan of my shit working when I turn it on.

Just Dave

OSX :)

hihihihihihi

rogueteens 12-01-2013 06:27 AM

Avast here too

OY 12-01-2013 07:28 AM

Good software is never free. I have paid for, and love, ESET NOD32 for 6 years. Not ONE virus.

FlowerKid 12-01-2013 03:22 PM

Maybe it doesn't work if it didn't found any virus for 6 years.

Linux is free. Get over it.

mikesinner 12-01-2013 03:55 PM

I tried three of them and still can't get this adware off, fuck it, I'll just do a factory restore.

DraX 12-01-2013 04:56 PM

There's alot of good free antiviruses, how about checking these out: Free Antivirus.

Some free antispyware over here.

Or when you want to put a few bucks in a non free solution: Antivirus Software, Internet Security, all-in-one-security.

You want more?! Sorry but that's all folks!

Some adware / spyware / viruses can't be removed by any program once you are infected. Identify which one you have, then go over to bleepingcomputer.com and search for a solution /tutorial for removal or ask for help there. That place has saved my ass many times.

MaDalton 12-01-2013 08:17 PM

the best "tool" against viruses: common sense

and it's free too
