Serious question: what can one buy that will bring lasting enjoyment?
I have no idea.
I have tons of cash, can't think of anything to do with it, other than invest it and have even more. But that's boring. |
Do something. Happy memories are worth more than anything.

You can buy a helicopter and fly it around.

Maybe make some other webmasters happy?.. :upsidedow jk
Or just think for a bit about "What would make me happy? ie. Places to live/visit, fun hobbies, bucket list type things to do, etc." then do it. Or make a roller coaster in you back yard. :winkwink: |

however, why not do what everyone does who has money and is bored spend and amaze someone who doesn't have it :1orglaugh |
no such thing , as "lasting" enjoyment, sooner or later you will get tired of it, no matter what. Lasting enjoyment is intangible, not really attached to material things:2 cents:

send a bunch of chocolates/cakes to the local old peoples home once a week/month, 100% anonymously
buy an old lady a dishwasher send tickets to a show/pantomime/concert/sports game to a children's home +1000 things like this. Obviously it gives different people varying degrees of enjoyment, just throwing it into the mix in case it gives you any ideas :) |

You should send all your money to the disaster victims in the Phillipines.

Money doesn't buy happiness. But money can allow you to do the things that do bring you happiness.
Forget about the money and ask yourself what makes you happy. There's your answer. |

Take up a hobby like skiing/snowboarding. |
Yeah snowboarding you can move around and do all year with money.
Oh and two chicks. .. |
My BMW m3 convertible pretty much did it. The one thing I wish I had bought during my big ballet period was a penthouse apt with a pool and ocean view. Amazing views that are panty droppers helps out a lot with the continuing satisfaction.

Use your money to help others.
|
If using some of the wealth that life has apparently given you to improve the life of somebody less fortunate than yourself doesn't give you lasting enjoyment then I suspect that nothing truly will.

Like Sly said, money won't buy you happiness, but will buy you some cool and fun stuff that will make you happy.
Everyone is different, but for me, I like to help people, and probably more importantly animals. If I had a big stash of cash, I'd open up some place to help animals and give people jobs-- that would make me happy. I'll get there, had a minor setback but back on track. Find something that you like to do, travel, find a hobby or 8. But sooner or later, you'll probably find doing something for others, even if it does financially benefit you, will bring you endless happiness. |
I like collecting Rolex watches.
You can wear them and get enjoyment out of them. They hold their value and in most cases actually increase in value rather than decrease! |
Apart from donating to all of us ;)
I advice you to travel the world for a few years. That will be unforgettable. |
Put all your money into a bathtub and take a bath like donald duck.

It depends on what YOU like doing that will give you the most pleasure..
Sure we can all give you advise so you can get ideas but it'll only give you short pleasure that you will come back and be pissed off that you wasted your time doing "that"... |

You can also see the confusion... between pleasure and happiness. Pleasure is not "happiness" in the context of emotional health. Pleasure is merely a short term high. A blowjob is nice, but a blowjob that lasts months would be a nightmare. The truly sad thing is that your suggestion would do far more to make any person here more happy than anything else and its super easy to do. Interestingly, twin studies have proven that happiness is more or less a fixed trait. People are born with a certain amount of activity in the brains pre-frontal cortex - it varies from person to person. In identical twins however, this level of activity too, is identical. In twins who are separated at birth, you can see 40 years later that they share the exact same personality traits - including a strikingly similar degree of "happiness" in addition to sharing most other personality traits. People generally will only feel a set degree of happiness and no matter what happens in the short term (i.e. winning the lottery), they will quickly return to that set point - hedonic adaptation. Changing that, actually requires a lot of work. It can't be done by buying a Ferrari or dating a model, as you will still return to that same set point, no matter how good you feel in the short term. I would also think that one should be concerned to realize that he or she believes an inanimate object makes them "happy" and looks to inanimate objects for "happiness". Thats no more logical than exclaiming that an inanimate object makes he or she upset (i.e. This car is pissing me off) - that's a lot of power to give to something which is neither aware of itself or others. |
