"New York City has reportedly started sending out confiscation notices ordering gun owners to ?immediately surrender? rifles and/or shotguns capable of holding more than five rounds of ammunition. It is illegal to possess a rifle or shotgun with the capacity to hold more than five rounds in the city, according to NYC Administrative Code 10-306 (b).

An alleged notice sent to an NYC resident, dated Nov. 18, offers the gun owner the following options:

1. Immediately surrender your Rifle and/or Shotgun to your local police precinct, and notify this office of the invoice number. The firearm may be sold or permanently removed from the City of New York thereafter.

2. Permanently remove your Rifle and/or Shotgun from New York City?

3. You may call to discuss the matter if you believe your firearm is in compliance, or you may request the option to bring your firearm to a licensed gunsmith for a permanent modification and certification proving that it is permanently modified and in compliance."

This is just one good reason to never register a firearm and if you do own any, do not show them off to friends ;)

No rifle or shotgun I own would be legal in NY. The same for most of my handguns.

NY state will never collect a single cent from me for hunting or from the sales tax from buying guns and ammo. Florida, Tennessee and North Carolina all benefit.

But you can't throw drugs into a crowd to kill large groups of people. I love guns as much as the next guy, but to act like there should be no restrictions or laws on them is kind of silly, considering what they can do in the wrong hands. Although I think 5 is a pretty low number. What gun has a 5 round mag?

I believe more than 10 for a handgun is illegal.

Gotta love gun laws, a 10 round .45 handgun is legal but a 6 round .22 rifle isn't.

What possible reason could there be for owning a 5 round shotgun in a major city?

A shotgun is ok for duck and pheasant hunting, other than that its only use is close quarters combat against groups.

I just do not get this American fascination with guns.

The second amendment ain't about duck hunting. It's about keeping the citizens free from tyranny. Government tyranny to be exact.
