Slot machines don't make sense.

So this guy says, well the odds are exactly the same on each spin. Even if it just hit a jackpot. The eeprom in there sets a percentage payout rate (according to him earlier in the same video).

Well, if the machine has just paid out quite a bit, then, won't it pay out less for awhile trying to get back to its set percentage?

This is why people tend to play machines that they see people getting up from (after not winning). The timelines of the balancing out are much longer than "it has been cold all day," so this isn't very helpful ... but people insist on trying.

A more viable strategy is to key on the looser machines. These tend to be near bathrooms and other exits; the theory is that if a machine "hits" more often around areas that "exit" the gaming floor, it'll rope people back in.

Incidentally, I don't know if you noticed, but I bumped the thread where I gave you investment advice -- you would have at least doubled your money in a short time if you followed it .. did you?

I think you're confusing the amount actually paid out by the slot machine, vs how often they actually pay out.

As a general rule, slot machines pay out 90% of how much they take in, give or take a few points either way. This is how slot machines make money for casinos, and never lose money. Some casinos advertise "95% payouts" but this is usually only for certain machines and they don't always tell you which ones.

I think what happened is, they pay out x% over the LONG term ... so deviations don't matter .. so it really is the same for every spin

You would have made a tidy profit. FB went from $26.11 to $47.00. ZNGA went from $3.35 to $4.41. Your dividends from AT&T would be enough to cover much of the drop, and they'll keep coming.

Did you invest, or no?
