I rejected a WHALE AFFILIATE for wanting to do malware

Apparently he is already hooked up with another program... wonder which one took the business.

Thanks to everyone that put a red flag up for us btw...:thumbsup

vdbucks 11-23-2013 12:08 AM

Pretty easy to sleuth where the lead came from...

Wish I could share the skype text, just priceless.

Seth Manson 11-23-2013 01:39 AM

Plenty of other fat affiliates to choose from.

So I have heard...

Now if I could just figure out where they all are and why they are selling some program that is running off the rails instead of going full steam ahead with us I would be all set.

AdultKing 11-23-2013 04:07 AM

malware or adware ?

If that's the case there is no other industry eating itself like this one.

Kudos to all you who rejected this proposal.

DVTimes 11-23-2013 04:22 AM

good to know

Roald 11-23-2013 05:33 AM

Pfff, except all of them. There is way more garbage in mainstream, the only difference is most mainstream products can be marketed to all genders and orientations and many to minors, vastly increasing the consumer base and besides can be advertised on much larger networks.

I'm not supporting malware I'm just saying its not an industry problem.

Indeed.

Name names or keep it to yourself.

freecartoonporn 11-23-2013 09:26 AM

what do you mean by whale ?

lagwagon 11-23-2013 09:34 AM

Is this the $5-10K per week thread guy? I emailed him for the details. What I got back was too fishy for me. :2 cents:

American Psycho 11-23-2013 11:20 AM

yeah it was that guy the guy who was like five to ten thousand a week

Did it involve Russian programmers, putting code on your site, and not asking any questions?:winkwink:

Robbie 11-23-2013 12:12 PM

I wrote him when I saw his post.

I read his reply (which was very courteous and businesslike) and then simply deleted the email. The second I saw the word "Pop under" I stopped reading and hit delete.
Never even got around to the malware part.

Maybe some of those big generic paysites can do that kind of thing.
But it wasn't for me.

The people who come to claudia-marie.com are her fans. No way I was even gonna do a popunder on them, much less malware.

Her site had the traffic that he is looking for. But I have no interest in hurting us for 10 grand a week.

I would consider it if you asked politely, but when you put it like that then why should I do you the favor?

While I am not specifically anti-popunder, I agree it is always a smart move to protect your brand. Every big program I know that went down that road goes down hill quickly from taking that path.

Roald 11-23-2013 12:29 PM

AH the popunder guy. Rejected him based on the pops already.

Sounds like he found a lot of doors getting slammed closed in his face. But that just begs the question... which program felt desperate enough to take him up on it?

Can you spare me the hug and just send a fuzzy pink Attaboy instead?

The Porn Nerd 11-23-2013 01:10 PM

Yes, saw the email and did what Robbie did: stopped reading when I saw the words POP UNDER. I fucking HATE pop UPs, UNDERs, SIDEWAYs, whatever.

<Mini-rant> when i go to a tube site or sometimes now a TGP and login to the Upload area I get pop-ups, just like some fucking surfer. C'mon people, do you have to mind rape your business partners with pop-ups, too? </mini-rant>

I see pop-ups on paysites and I just scratch my head. Even if the pop-up is another paysite it's fucking annoying.

Robbie 11-23-2013 01:26 PM

You shoulda saw the pop up hell of MaxCash and ARS back in the 1990's.
Back then they would hit you with so many popups on their paysites that it would actually use up all your computers resources and you would have to do a hard reboot. :(

Yep I remember back when the popups had popups. We called it a "pornado"

Great term, apropos...

And both those and others were highly revered brick shithouse programs to affiliates while consumers felt the devastating effects of that Cat 5 Pornado

Just Alex 11-23-2013 10:15 PM

Who didn't see that one coming? first he was looking to buy approved traffic broker accounts, then pop-unders

I missed that. Definitely pays to read more closely but it was good for a laugh.

I refused to promote either one until they gave me a special login with "clean" codes.

After that we made great money with them. But they still didn't release the "clean" codes for another year to other affiliates. :(

Their entire business model back then was based on selling popups. And the funny thing was that they were basically writing checks to each other! MaxCash paysites would pop up a thousand ARS sites, and ARS paysites popped up a thousand MaxCash sites. lol

I wouldn't run their shit on our TGP's.
Matter of fact for many years I had "No Popup, No Blindlinks, No Bullshit" as the tag line on my TGP at shavedgoat.com ... all from my disgust at that business practice.

It pays to be leery of Russian programmers, this is true.

Mal or adware?

Its a fairly important detail.

I guess since some people consider those two things one and the same while others see fine shades of difference and grey areas, and others see it black and white - where do you draw the line?

Well Malware is actually infecting a users machine with malicious code.

Any idea what the pop-under would do ?

Unfortunately asking that question was the question that could not be asked.

While adware is perhaps a reasonably benign form of malware, it still is defined by a large percentage of what would describe "malware" which is really sort of a broad and generic catchall term anyway. So, I am not going to split hairs over it which is why I am asking how others would define it.

Regardless, the idea that we would put any code on our site without being able to vet it out, or even ask questions, just be happy with the sign-ups, was enough of a red flag for me.

Oh yeah... and I asked if he was malware guy and he said yes.

So I guess I had my reasons to be cautious...:winkwink::1orglaugh

Maxcash and ARS exit pops were not that bad.
We were ARS' #1 affiliate for years, i knew the exit chain pretty well.
