A friend of mine is missing....Typhoon

I learned today that a friend of mine went to the Philippines for his 50th birthday and landed the day the Typhoon hit.

His whole family is desperately trying to reach him.

http://www.komonews.com/news/local/L...231393931.html

My thoughts are with all the people that have lost friends and family.

Whether you are a religious person or not, please keep Greg in your thoughts for a safe return.
:(

seeandsee 11-11-2013 02:55 PM

What a bad day to land, i hope he is ok

nexcom28 11-11-2013 02:57 PM

Hope he's got one hell of a story to tell..

EddyTheDog 11-11-2013 02:59 PM

Shit - What a nightmare - I really hope you hear something soon...

L-Pink 11-11-2013 03:14 PM

That's a fucked up story. Sure hope he's ok, what a situation to be dropped into.

Elli 11-11-2013 03:33 PM

I hope he makes contact soon. That probably wasn't the kind of adventure he had in mind.

crockett 11-11-2013 03:36 PM

Sorry that the guy is missing, but why would anyone continue on a trip when they had to of known the storm was going to hit. It's not like these things just pop up out of nowhere, with no advanced warning...

Couldn't agree more, and I know alot of people who have gone to mexico and just ignored the warnings as well, concerning the weather .

The Heron 11-11-2013 03:57 PM

Ha he's off fucking some whores, don't worry

How many people fly into LA or San Francisco every day knowing it's a disaster just waiting to happen?..

You never think it will happen to you....

Adam_M 11-11-2013 04:04 PM

Really hope it turns out well for your friend and his family

A hurricane/typhoon is completely different than a earthquake or even a tornado.. It something that might be extremely bad, but people have advanced warning at the very least 48 hours.. This guy going there knowing this storm was going to hit is extremely arrogant and irresponsible. Even if he found a place to stay safe, he's now a drain on the limited resources for all those that lived there.

I'm third generation of Hurricane Alley residents that have ignored decades of evacuation alerts. So far, so good.

Not really much of a comparison, there was plenty of advanced warning out about the typhoon hitting shore. This wasn't an earthquake or tsunami where people had no idea what was about to happen.

I've ridden out many of hurricanes myself, but you can almost always tell if it will be a bad storm well in advance. It's one thing to live in a area and being prepared, but some storms, like Andrew for example not be messed with.. This typhoon was known to be a monster well before this guy would have ever boarded his plane.

Also if you live there, you likely have a supply of water and food to last several days. This guy obviously wasn't gonna be carrying seven days worth of water supply in his suitcases, much less food.

Phoenix 11-11-2013 04:19 PM

Hope he is ok. Must suck for his family.

There have been 22 typhoons hit the Philippines this season so far - The guy probably left home when this was just a CNN side note - If that...

I know. Can you imagine landing in a foreign country in the middle of a disaster, no friends, no family, no idea the city's lay out, maybe no understand of the language ……… Like nexcom28 said "Hope he's got one hell of a story to tell.."

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, is having any fun in Tacloban now. In theory they'll have cel phone service restored today so hopefully this guy is still alive and will be able to make contact in the next 24 hours.

Yeah right, he is ignoring his family and keeping them in high stress just because he is having fun.
More likely he can not get in touch due to infrastructure.

fucking right, we played golf in hurricane andrew and my longest drive was 465 yards and it plugged in the ground. The ball just went up and rode the wind.
Into the wind we were getting 90 yards haha

bronco67 11-11-2013 07:59 PM

A visit to weather.com was in order before this trip.

Hope he turns up soon. My brother's wife is Filipina, and I just got a text asking if I could make a care package of clothes and canned food. I had no idea how terrible this was because I've been in a news vacuum for the last couple of days. It looks like the worst thing ever.

KRosh 11-11-2013 08:36 PM

Thanks for the nice comments...

I don't worry about the negative comments. That just comes with the territory.

Just hoping he is alive :(

Good news! If you can, post what it was like for him after you talk, I'm just curious.

I have not spoken to him directly, but when he contacts me I will get as much detail as possible

_Richard_ 11-12-2013 08:56 AM

I was thinking about my harsh post last night.

It was very stupid for him to go, but that doesn't alleviate your pain which I am sorry for.

Glad he is alive and OK.

freecartoonporn 11-12-2013 09:15 AM

crockett 11-12-2013 11:50 AM

Good to hear he is alive, but I still stand by what I said about him being very stupid for going when this storm had been a class 5 three days before it hit and had a very clear path of wheee it was going. Hopefully this serves as a wake up call to him and he doesn't do something so dumb again.

hottoddy 11-12-2013 11:56 AM

Good to hear. Does anyone know if the new guy from Journey has been accounted for yet?

Imagine you have your birthday planned and everything is paid for. Its not that pleasant to lose all that money and plans. I mean when you go you obviously think that its 99% that you would be fine. Life is risky, he took a risk like you take risks in many life situations.

datgif 11-12-2013 01:11 PM

Sorry to hear. Hope he's okay.
