I always wondered what was the real sense of these kind of gatherings.

Yes, I can understand a big sponsor or a payment system going there, it's probably not an expense for them. You see always the same faces in those places. Just take a look at this thread, always the same people going there. You can also see affiliate managers who don't lose anything, because they get all expenses covered for going there.

But for the regular affiliate? Nothing will change for them. They won't make a difference going to that place. Wasting 5K on the trip and getting nothing in return? At max, they could talk to some Affiliate Manager and get what? A special deal? A 60% revshare instead of 55%? A discount in hosting? Not really worth it. Specially in a shrinking business.

This said, if 90% of people going there are either sponsor owners, photographers, content sellers, affiliate managers, payment systems, traffic brokers, etc... It really makes no sense. You barely have some affiliates to talk to. It makes no sense, seriously. :2 cents:

Some treat it as fun, not only business. For instance you can spend that money on this trip or you can spend this money on "regular" beach trip. It may even be that this trip (with all your buddies and networking) turns out to be more fun than the "regular" beach vacation trip.

And even more... You tell people who travel from far far away to Curacao, you are telling them to go to Aruba???? dude, move your lazy ass and go to that gathering, you have no excuses here. You are 15 mins away from it. The funny thing is that you tell people that come from Holland, to move their asses and go from Curacao to Aruba, because you can't travel only 100 KM to go to the island just in front of your home. That's fucked up. And if you are really involved in the Mainstream Tourism industry, you should know this very well.

The programs are affiliates too, they buy ad spaces/links from each other and bounce the traffic between each other, in circles. So there are affiliates there, just not the small ones :)

Still it quite funny how some people claim how you can get roi as affiliate which is totally bullshit.Still,they come handy for some party,learning some new things,and listen about drama lama which normally doesn't publish on boards.

Well, you have a point there... BUT.... they once told me when I moved here that the climate, the atmosphere and the whole mentality here makes you fucking lazy after a while... I guess they were right :winkwink:
