November 11th - Remembrance Day
 

The year my sister passed away - my wife and I were driving back from Ottawa to Niagara Falls along Hwy 401.

A short distance behind us was a motorcade carrying the body of one of our fallen Canadian soldiers returning from Afghanistan - from Trenton to Toronto.

The weather was stormy. The rain was so heavy I had the wipers on high and still the visibility was poor on the highway.

Yet...for miles on every bridge overpass - in the heavy downpour - we saw thousands of people lining the bridges, the sides of the highway. Police, firefighters, Legion color guards, RCMP, citizens displaying hundreds of Canadian flags.

The weather didn't deter them. They stood fast...waiting to pay final respects to the fallen soldier as he made his final trip home.

I still remember that day vividly. The pride I felt in my fellow countrymen. It was an emotion I'll always carry with me.

Lest we forget.

I, on the other hand will be attending ceremonies at the cenotaph where we'll be laying a wreath on behalf of the company I work for.
