Beware of replacement laptop ac adapters.

Off ebay. From things you never expected that would be wrong with products here's another one to look out for. Seems these brandless replacement adapters have grounding issues, using the touchpad while plugged in the mouse jumps all over the place. How can someone predict that?

Here's an article showing why buying knockoff Chinese copies is a really, really bad idea. It centers on iPhone chargers but the same thing applies to any power supply... you don't want to get it wrong when there's mains voltages involved. Ask yourself what corners they're cutting in order to sell you something at 20% of the OEM price. Pay a few bucks and buy a properly engineered device.

And here's an article about a specific charger and why it's so dangerous:

How can someone predict if you buy a generic cheap chinese knock off power supply it adversely affects your machine?

God knows. No idea. I mean, why on earth would a cheap shit thing off ebay not function as well as an expensive branded version.

Colour me baffled.

properly engineered or not, fuck paying $129 for a brand name version... :2 cents:

its the same shit, one would expect they copy the way the original is made. They clearly didnt with this. Aside from that, everything i ever ordered from any country has always worked perfectly. Let's argue!

if they would copy the way the original is made, they would most likely also copy the price

they are cheap for a reason; cheap chinese electronics are all garbage :2 cents:

It obviously isn't, or it would work.

About what? You being surprised a cheap, shit, knockoff was shit? Nothing really to argue about there. You're clearly naive or stupid if you think that a cheap shit knockoff would be any good.

The problem is, even the new stuff you get with the laptop or what ever is made in China. Pretty much any adapters be it the el cheepos or name brand are all still made in China.

The last time I bought a laptop battery, I looked on ebay and found the actual company that made the batteries for toshiba. It wasn't a knock of or a cheap version it was their actual supplier selling them on ebay. I bought the battery for $30 bucks and toshiba wanted something around $80. When I got it, it was identical to my old one, right down to the various labels and proof was in the pudding when I noticed the manufacturer on the old battery was the same as who I bought it from on ebay.

You do realize that all your beloved Apple products and parts are made in China, right?
