Levels of hardcore in Tour vs. Members area
Just curious as I am rounding up some content to send the the designer for a tour.
Do you want to put your hardest core stuff in the tour? Save it for the members area? Go for a happy medium? Or try to have your tour cover the same spectrum of members area content i.e same % of hard vs softcore content? |
Thee used to be a saying...
"Make them pay for pink." Back then, people liked making money instead of giving shit away for free. |

OK thanks guys I was thinking about now though.

I would go with the same percentage - ie make the tour reflect what you actually have in the members area. We've done that and are seeing pretty good results.

Consider a WordPress based pay site using one install / DB: visitors see the post excerpt and thumb / face image, logged in members get the full post / set. A similar arrangement is possible with any other CMS and makes transparent sites easy. You can use CCBill etc. for .htaccess control to /members dir and cookies to set whether excerpts link to full post or join page. |
Depending upon the tour design layout, I have a small precentage that show a bit of explicit shots, so the members know that type of content is inside...especially with specific girls that I have shot somewhat more explicit content than they normally do, or have not shot that type of content at all, other than with me.
But, of course I don't give too much away! ;-) |

Sigh. |
Why not transparent all the way and skip "tour" and instead of that show all movies (well... of course not the movies but the collage/some pics/screenshots of the movies)
on the moviespages... Create moviepages... If done correct it's a huge free teasing tour! And this way they see exactly what they get if they sign up. That's creating trust... People saw enough free tours and once they signed up... huge disapointement... Further... you get more pageviews, better bouncerate... higher time spend on site per visitor... etc... |
The reason I ask is because up till now I have always had full transparency, I use mechbunny and if you look at for example exposedexgf.com the site is the tour.
The only difference is that the photo viewing is limited to the thumbs, if you try to expand you get a signup page. Likewise with videos, length is limited to 60 seconds. It sounds great, unfortunately it does not actually seem to work that well and in some cases is it TOO transparent, customers can be stupid. Sometimes forget to log in and complain the videos are too short, or they forget to sign up and think the site is free. So I am trying something different this time around and the site will be behind a paywall with a standard tour. |
It's not about "misleading" or "transparency" - its about using what best represents the product they are paying for. You can't show people one thing and then hope they correctly imagine what the actual thing is they are paying for is.

Sign up to a shitty site a few times based on what you saw in the tour and you will hestitate more to sign up to a site based on what you saw in a tour. I'm not saying all sites with a tour a shitty sites... of course not! But i did sign up a few times to sites with great tours and shitty memberarea and i noticed myself that i'm not signing up anymore based on tours. |

Exposedexgf.com indeed looks a bit like a free site imho. It has a tube character/style... First thing visitors do is not read what's in the header... they scoll down first thing and see a tubestyle site with "channels", categories called "most popular", "most commented", "highest rated", ect... You also use titles like "Porn Tube Videos" They think they are on a free tube site and then you are trying to make them pay for that free tube site. I think it's not too transparent... I think you should use that transparency in the correct set up. Tranparency is not the problem on that site imho. |

Hardcore factor is not as essential as if the sample / tour looks interesting enough for the customers you're targeting. A picture is worth thousand words, so one better picks it right.
|
go FULL RETARD, everything, the whole lot. you have one chance
then they sign up and get the same, and more dont forget to add a link to a tube site so they can also get it for free |

The "great tours"/"shitty members area" is and always has been the plague of the industry because its a business full of dysfunctional morons who think more about how to screw people today, than build for tomorrow. You felt burned due to the misalignment you experienced between the tour and members area and felt misled and ripped off because expectations were created in your mind, you joined with those exact expectations and then those expectations were not met once you paid and you felt robbed. I am not really talking about you. I just can't understand how people could even be having these conversations. The question is literally, "should I advertise what i expect people to pay for" - "should i create an alignment of expectations with what they are paying for". It's silly that it even needs to be discussed. The other eternally retarded discussion of this biz is "do ugly tours convert better". Ugly... nice... its irrelevant. Its about clarity. Is it clear to the user where he is. Is it clear what is being offered to the user. Is it clear there is value to what is being offered. Is it clear what he needs to do to get it. Is the process of getting it, clear. |

Make three versions and test, test, test. Hard, medium, soft, whatever. Otherwise all you are doing is guessing.
Then try each on different types of traffic. Test. Test. Test. Now use the best on each traffic source and begin the process all over refining each aspect of each tour respective to its traffic. Test. Test. Test. |

Show them the good shit on the tour, cross sell them to three other shitty sites on the join page, then bang the shit out of their cards after they cancel.
You dont need a member's area. |

That's the best way alright! Sadly us in the UK have compliance issues which mean we have to censor explicit content. I'm not saying it hasn't hurt our business, but we're still growing so we must be doing something right. I also think these days having a site which gives a proper experience on Mobiles and tablets is equally as important as your content level |
