Sometimes making rock n' roll music is like making porn (and vice versa)... :winkwink:

People are amazed at the longevity of the Stones, but BB King is now 88 years old, and he still tours all over the world every year (I'm pretty sure he doesn't need the money)... :bowdown

King is also known for performing tirelessly throughout his musical career appearing at 250-300 concerts per year until his seventies. In 1956 it was noted that he appeared at 342 shows. King continues to appear at 100 shows a year.
One of my favorite BB King shows was a concert I took my Dad to on the wharf in Seattle - it was a clear summer day, and Mt Ranier looked beautiful in the distance.

B.B. King is THE MAN!
When I worked for MCA Records back in the early 80's, he was on out label, and I did several promo events, and concert things with him. A complete gentleman, and of course an amazing blues player. :thumbsup:thumbsup

Actually, he probably does. I imagine he got fucked royally on most of his record deals.

Most musicians earn more from live appearances than from record royalties. :2 cents:

Most bands certainly make more money from concerts (than album sales). Generally major label contracts only pay a small fraction of each CD, and there are many reductions taken from the artist's royalties. So unless your CD sells millions of units, you're not going to make much. For live performances, however, the artist keeps most of the money.

Basically this can be extended to the debate about pirating digital music: it's not going to kill the artist, it's only killing the record companies.

another killer from that set

Robbie 11-05-2013 04:34 PM

That song kicks ass! The Stones have done that song in live sets too during their own shows.

I think it's cool to see the look on all their faces in these vids. Muddy Waters is having a great time getting all the (well deserved) attention.
And Mick Jagger & Keith Richards look like 2 kids at Christmas being onstage with their hero.

Especially musicians who signed the rights away to their hits 50 years ago.

Yeah, the Stones were in town during their 1981 Tattoo You Tour and played 3 nights at The Rosemont Horizon in Chicago.

And going out every night to the Checkerboard Lounge in Chicago to see Muddy was at the top of their list of shit to do every night. I believe they had him play with them in front of their huge crowds while they were there as well.

I remember reading all about it back when it happened...but now actually seeing this footage is incredible. There wasn't no fancy "internet" back in '81. I just got my info from Rolling Stone and Musician magazines back then. lol

dyna mo 11-05-2013 05:11 PM

nice, that was the tour i saw them in the astrodome! zztop and the t-birds opened up. shitty acoustics, good times!

Robbie 11-05-2013 05:11 PM

Here is where the Stones first walk into the club and get onstage. Keith actually pops open an entire bottle of liquor and is swigging from the bottle lol Matter of fact he whips out a fucking switchblade to open the bottle if you watch closely:

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 11-05-2013 05:49 PM

Suddenly made me think of an old Muddy Waters tune, "Champagne and Reefer"...and sure enough: :thumbsup :1orglaugh

Edit: Oops, got stoned and missed Dyna Mo's post, lol (damn Jack Frost).

This thread needs a whole lot more of the ultimate Muddy Waters / Rolling Stones affiliation:

I spell "M", "A" child, .... "N".

Hence the name of the band... History...

The first Master of the Telecaster. Muddy Waters. He be a rollin' stone. Funny how the camera only focuses on the only two white women in the crowd, though...
